MXA shuts down James stewart in their YZ450F test ride.

Just read the first few bits. I guess even MXAs patience ran out when JS7 (and his team) pointed fingers at the YZF for his crash outs.

Stewart is a crasher with a reputation for the worst bike setup skills in the sport.

I love this quote.

Agreed.

Whatever the guys personality is (IMHO a total tosser based on interviews/media coverage) hes a good rider. Not the best, but a good rider nonetheless.

Really? You think so? I don't know. I have no inside information and I don't know him but just from watching him and in interviews, I think his is more from the JS mold where he is an incredible talent and has built unmatched speed, but either due to bike setup or overreaching, is bound to futz it up.

On the other hand, of the kids coming up, you have Tomac, K-Roc, Wilson etc. who week in and week out put in good rides, don't tend to crash (Wilson has another problem) and may not be the "fastest man of the planet" (Wilson could be but won't due to his other problem) but are at the front every week - they know that is what wins championships. Winning the battle (the moto) is great but winning the war (the championship) is what it's all about.

Look at Davey Millsaps. He was 2nd in the Outdoors yet everyone was like "Davey who? Who's he?" When he won the first SX.

I tend to agree about Barcia, think he's a bit of a spoil sport too. Stewart is probly the best rider to watch when he's not racing....

So JS7 has the "worst bike setup skills" of any of the other top riders.

If thats the case, then image how fast/effective he would be if he could clean that up and get the bike to work for him. So he is as fast as he is (including crash-o-matic mode of course) with a bike that is not properly setup?

Of course that all goes into the mix. You have to have the fitness, the skill, the toughness, the bike working reliably and perfectly and a competitive bike to boot to finish at the top.  So JS's lack of setup prowess is what holds him back these days. Is that the take away from the article?

As for the off track antics and the arrogant statements by him and other top riders -- well, I think its all just part of the marketing game. Dungey does none of this stuff so who would I rather ride with? No brainer there, but these guys have all been through the meat grinder to get to this level.  I just don't care what comes out of their mouths. They are amazing riders, doing things I can't even fathom -- all of them, even JS7.

Well, I could see that JS has set up issues. Remember, all growing up and into his prime, Daddy James took care of his bikes. JS didn't "fall apart" until have he "grew up" and left the nest. I remember at one point, he brought Big James back but that was short lived. Probably had to do more with father and son issues than tuner/rider.

Although there are known problems with the Yamaha, they are nothing that other riders have not figured out how to deal with. JS not being able to cope with it - and blaming is problems on it is a sham and unprofessional. As you can tell, I am not a JS fan, but I don't doubt his ability to go faster than anyone else out there. If he had confidence in his ride, and you get that by getting a good tuning, he wouldn't crash so much.

With the flashes of brilliance he shows us, the domination he dreams of would come true.

I don't get the name calling and hatred directed toward some riders.
I bet no one on here has met any of the pro's and are basing their opinion on tv.
Why dislike someone you have never met. ??? Waste of energy.
These guys race bikes , Thats it, They don't cure cancer and are not mass murderers.
All they do is race bikes faster then any of us could imagine.
Do what I do for the race interviews, TURN THE SOUND DOWN. It's all scripted bull shit anyway that has nothing to do with the guys personality.
I think some of you people may think it is American Idol. ;)

I was always taught not to say anything about someone unless you were prepared to say it to there face.
Anyone prepared to walk up to Barcia and call him a Douche.? ???

Leave the crap talk to vital.

Ahhh bob Hannah. I wish I had been around to watch all that racing. Damn being young. All I've ever known is four stroke four stroke four stroke  ><img src=" title="Angry" class="smiley">

First off, absolutely I would walk up to Barcia and/or James Stewart and call them a douche. But wait a second, all I know of them is what they say in interviews. And like you pointed out, it is scripted BS. I don't know anything about their REAL LIFE personalities and as you accurately pointed out, I am basing my opinion on what I've seen from media coverage. I made a point of mentioning that:

Barcia comes across as an arrogant wang, as I pointed out. However that is just media. Thats like smelling a barbequed pork chop and saying its going to taste like arse. My issue, is with James Stewart pointing fingers at the Yammie for his failures. Now maybe its all true, maybe he was just looking for an excuse to cover up his failures, maybe he just let it slip in the heat of the moment, maybe he didn't realise the huge impact it would have on the YZFs reputation when he hinted at it. Who knows? James does, but I really don't care that much to contact him. Its a four stroke after all :D

I don't want to know how you know what arse tastes like stusmoke. :o :-X ;)
That aside, how would MXA know that the YZF was good enough for one of the best riders in the world any more than I'd  be able to run a couple laps on Rossi's Ducati and say the problem lies with him.
It's a little different when a mere mortal rides something as compared to a top 5 guy that rides 11/10ths all the time.
I'm not a Stewart fan but you can't argue his talent.
Barcia didn't get the bam-bam tag for nothing but I saw little evidence of that by the end of last season and the first couple of this year.Maybe he's matured somewhat.Everyone likes RC but he was universally hated when he first started hitting the podium.
I think we need to remember that, despite the talent level, most of these guys are still just kids.I well remember what a d!ck head I was(yeah, yeah,or still am-I'll say it first  :D ) in my late teens/early twenties-without all the pressures these guys have on them.
I tend to cut them a lot of slack for this reason alone. That said, every now and again you run across a Lawrence or Hansen.True arseholes that eventually use up all their chances then just go away-or take up freestyle.

Ahhhh freestyle... The ultimate try hards sport. Do or die.

Anyway I tend to agree with you, but I mean look at reed. Now hes a little older and also Australian by birth (not a good start :P) but hes never pointing fingers, hes always congratulating all his competitors, general good sportsmanship. Or maybe I just haven't been watching enough mower/foopercross. I hardly ever do anymore.
