Has anyone seen this months Dirt Bike cover? :o It's also interesting to note that the 6 bike 450 shootout gets a small inset pic on the cover.I'm starting to notice a trend here  :<img src=" title="Roll Eyes" class="smiley">  8)

Ford the bike pic you got posted on here is'nt the KTM that was on the cover of the July 2012 issue of Dirt Bike, although that bike is a very nice KTM-300xc-w the bike on the cover was in fact a 2013 KTM-300xc & I really, really want one or two of them.... ;D  :P  :D..The only thing I don't like about the 2013 KTM-300xc is imo it should have black side number plates & a black gas tank.... ;)...On another note Ford I just seen one of the new Maico's on the MI website & the latest news on the almighty Maico front is the usual..."We're bringing our new Maicos out this year... ;D  :o  :D I have to assume this year will be 2013!!! What's your guess??? :-

Yeah,I know maicoman but I couldn't find the DB cover page online-I figured the internal trans ratios didn't make too much difference to the pic. ;)
As for the Maico's,maybe.Fool me once and so on.Hopefully it happens so the Maico faithful can come back out of hiding where they've been hanging their collective heads in shame. :D

I'd rather a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.

Not I Ford...I was once a Maico diehard & still do like the older early 80's Maicos up to '83' but ever since the Brits took over I honestly have NOT seen them really update anything significant & all this chatter of F1 technology is hogwash imho! I'll keep my maicoman009 but truth is I am now a diehard KTM fan as well as a Husqvarna fan!

I am the self professed leader of the shamed Maico faithful and needless to say... I still hang my head in shame... I still want to believe, but I think it will never happen and have finally moved on. TM or OSSA/GG will gladly accept my money in '13, so there it will be spent.

well, if you talk to the Brits like I did, several times... they say they have but are in legal limbo.... if you talk to Herr Kostler, he is still the Maico man... still fighting over actual ownership of the Maico name. Brits claim it is still owned by a Dutch fellow and that Kostler never owned it... but somehow things are still tied up in the courts and thus preventing MI from releasing parts/bikes/etc... Yawn...sigh....

Merkle was the Dutch fellow, wasn't he?

The last Maicos I had were from that era - 89 /91.

All of my riding buddies are on newer rides...  unfortunately my 2000 KTM 300exc puts them all to shame....  Well at least the wife doesn't this..  as I've using the "I've got the oldest bike and I'm thinking its time to upgrade to a new / newer bike" on her..."  :D no she's not buying that argument either...  :-[  But I do see a new / newer KTM 300XC in my future.

I may have spoken too soon...  I've always wanted a KTM 380, and happen to find an 02 EXC for sale locally...  yes I will be looking it over this weekend.  I spoke to the owner, his kids are making him sell it, he's 70 years young, and is recovering from a heart attack.  As part of his recovery he rebuild the engine.  As he said I couldn't stand sitting in the chair all day and watching television.  He's had several kids look at it and refused to sell it to them, as he knew they are not prepared to handle the big bore beast.  One was moving up from an XR 100, dad was ready to pay cash, and the owner said no, he will hurt himself...  He asked me 20 question, how long kave you been riding, what do you ride now, what type of riding do you do, etc.  I guess I passed his test when he agreed to let me see it this weekend.   8)  Oh yea...  I love my 300, but 80 extra cc's hmmmm    :P

I'd be careful Eric. The 300's are one of the most loved bikes KTM ever built. The 380's typically never worked as well which is why they went away. :)

As far as who owns the Maico name,I don't see that it matters much.Germans and Brits fighting over a brand that's destined to be Maicosung before too long. You might not like the result, but at least you'll be able to get it. :D

Oh I concur, the 300 is a great bike with a huge cult following? But I have an itch I may need to scratch...  My plan is (if the bike is as sound as I expect) is to buy it and sell my son's quad.  He's finally seen the light and is ready to get back on a bike and get off the quad...  ;D  This way I can keep the 300 in the family...   :D

I do understand a lot of the issues with the 380's were due to jetting.  The 02 380 is basically my 00 300 with a different crank and cylinder.  I had many issues jetting my 300, but I finally listened to the boys on KTMtalk and I got her straightened out.  I'm ASSuming the same will be with the 380.  Don't forget with the KTM's the power valve (even on the "older" models) can be adjusted to open sooner or later changing the "hit".  If nothing else this will help squelch my desire for a new KTM 2012 E-start 300XC.  Besides the wife wants a new kitchen, so the new bike will have to stay as a pipe dream for now.  :(
