HILLSDALE, Mich., (April 6, 2010) – America’s leading competition mini bike manufacturer – Cobra Motorcycles – announced today a partnership with Italian-based Athena Evolution that will bring Formula One-like telemetry technology to youth motocross racing and training.

Beginning at the 39th annual NMA World Mini Grand Prix in Mesquite, Nev., a number of Cobra factory and privateer bikes will be outfitted with the revolutionary MD60LOG – a device that literally combines motocross training and racing with the latest in data acquisition technology, allowing young racers to track and map – using GPS – their bike’s performance output on points at motocross tracks located throughout the world.

Simply put, having the MD60Log on your Cobra motorcycle is like having factory race engineers located all over the track, documenting you and your bike’s every move.

“In a day and age where we’re connected at seemingly every point of our lives – from our home and office computers to auto GPS and more, the next step for Cobra was to get our motorcycles connected,” explained Cobra President Sean Hilbert. “Lap times, track maps, graphic power range displays – the MD60LOG on the Cobras documents technology never-before-seen at the consumer level of motocross racing.”

The Cobra-mounted MD60LOG data acquisition and analysis system enables real-time recording and visualization of lap times, partial times and speed without the use of external sensors. Easy-to-use and flexible, the MD60LOG enables the creation and customization of any track – with the automatic recognition of the track making the use of the device simple and intuitive for dads and their video game-smart mini racing kids.

“We chose Cobra as a partner based not only on the great racing heritage Cobra enjoys worldwide, but also given what the MD60LOG’s technology offers a father and son racing team on a limited budget,” said Paolo Pedersoli of Athena Evolution. “The MD60LOG is a very affordable way to add a group of factory engineers to your two-person team, giving the young racers using the product a decided technology advantage over the rest of the field.”

Added Hilbert: “Kids are going to pick up on this technology immediately.”

In addition to running the MD60LOG on a number of its factory and privateer bikes, Cobra will feature the product’s technology at its factory rig in the NMA Mini GP pits, as well as at a number of major amateur MX nationals throughout the summer. Athena Evolution’s revolutionary MD60LOG will also be available through Cobra’s website at www.cobramotorcycles.com

The next big amateur national competition on the schedule for Cobra racers is the April 12-18 World Mini Grand Prix relocated this year to Mesquite, Nevada (from Las Vegas).

Cobra, founded in 1993, produces the most successful line of competition mini cycles and mini quads in the United States with more than 200 national titles in the last decade. Based out of Hillsdale, Mich., Cobra’s mission is to build premium products for the serious racer. For more information on Cobra products, please visit our website at www.cobramotorcycle.com.
