FMF 2 Stroke Invitational – Spring Creek Edition

by JohnNicholas on 07/21/2009

The second round of the FMF Two Stroke Invitational lacked the Superstar power of the first race at Red Bud and the racer turnout was pretty low. The question is why did so few chose to race this event?

Could it be the last minute change at Red Bud to return the local pros entry fees and turn the race into a “Legends” event? (disappointment?) Or could it be that some were afraid to be on the same track as RC or other top motocross rider? (fear?)

Whatever the reason the racing was still fun for the die hard two stroke fans.

The local pros and fast “A” racers included Jade Dungey (Ryan’s older brother), Corey Kenney, Todd Walton, Colin Hickman and Brandon Haas. They rode hard and put on a good show for all.

The following is quoted from an article in the Post Bulletin in Minnesota about the race.

HAAS GETS 2-STROKE WIN: Brandon Haas of St. Charles won the FMF 2-Stroke Invitational, an amateur race between the pro motos that featured the older style bikes.

Haas has held his pro license for five years, but he said he can’t afford to compete at that level. He said the new four-stroke bikes are much more expensive to buy and maintain.

“I haven’t had the funds to build a good four-stroke and keep it running,” he said. “The two-stroke is cheaper to ride and I can afford to keep it going.

“I really hope two-strokes make a comeback, but we’ll see,” he said.

The 22-year-old Haas has been racing motocross since he was 13. He will compete in two weeks at the Loretta Lynn Amateur Nationals.
