Julian Branston's revolutionary two stroke prototype engine.

Who is Julian Branston?

After working with his interest in motocross, as a mechanic and engine technician for many years, both in amateur and professional ranks Julian started a small manufacturing company in the UK in 1994 making aluminium frame guards and skid plates for motocross and enduro bikes.

He has always had a keen interest in the two stroke engine, and its problems, and has been tuning two-stroke motocross race engines striving to increase the efficiency, since the early 70’s, and also find a way to lower the emissions.

During this time has built engines for Rob Herring, Paul Cooper, Gordon Crockard and when Ping from Racer X magazine was over in the UK for a Supercross Race at Sheffield Julian prepared the motor for Ping’s C.A.S. Honda CR125.

It was in July 2003 when the final “Eureka” moment came and the answer, on how to solve the emission and efficiency problems might be achieved and the simplicity of the solution was more of a surprise than the solution itself.

This set in motion the efforts to protect the idea by way of the patent system, a long and complicated path only recently reaching its conclusion with the granting of the final patent.

“When you’re trying to get interest in an idea that many think tanks of highly paid engineers and academics have been trying to solve for 50 plus years, and failed, is one of the major stumbling blocks when trying to generate some interest from the established engineering bodies.

What took me by surprise was that everybody I approached, from Universities to Private Engineering Consultants, were all working on there own two stoke revolution, either of there own making or on behalf of a “secret” third party.

I was happy to find out that there were some big manufacturers working on two strokes and that there could still be a chance to save it, but it didn’t help my particular cause. Because all these people wanted to be right and these are the ones funded by the various institutions and bodies.”

Yes it is possible to provide a cleaner and more efficient two-stroke without re-inventing the wheel.

Now that the patents have been granted, Julian is now looking for commercial interest to further develop the engine.

Please read about his extremely innovative solution to bringing the two-stroke back to its rightful place at the top of the Motocross world.

In addition he is a big supporter of TSM and has helped in many ways with encouragement and support.

His article titled “Motocross isn’t a Sport” is a must read.

From Four-stroke to Two!

For the last three years Bournemouth based racer Dan Lillington has been working his way up through the highly competitive M.X. 1 class on a 450F Honda in the Maxxis British M.X. Championship battling against the worlds G.P. stars.

After a chance ride on a new 500 Maico last December the fun and charm of a big two stroke clearly had an effect on the south coast racer. For 2008 Dan will be lining up on the grid in the expert open class in this years British Two stroke Championship.

Dan will be switching back and forth between the 500 and 320 Maico two-stroke.

Maico U.K. is sponsoring and supplying Dan with his two-stroke weapons.

Thank you Dan and Maico U.K. for supporting the Two-Stroke cause!
