« on: January 21, 2012, 12:34:20 PM »
I recently rebuilt my bike and have a question about a rev limiter. Its a 2002 kx85, its not stock but the electrical all is, my question is: does this bike  have a set rev limiter or can it be overrevved and blown up if ran wide open? i usually dont use wot but if i do how bad is it? Thanks!!

the 85's are supposed to scream!!! top end only motors :D

that's how they're meant to be ridden, as in pinned back as far as you can twist it
2007 cr125, all stock, except suspension work, Sunline Flex levers, and a crf250r front # plate and front fender

A 2t rev limiter is just the design of the engine-when you start losing power. On the other hand,it's a bad idea to keep it pegged for longer periods of time-shift up.If you're topped out on a fire road or something vary your throttle, don't hold it pinned. You can blow a properly jetted 2t by holding it wfo for extended periods.

Is it bad to hold a two stroke at a constant throttle at all? With a properly broken in top end of course...I have heard this from multiple people. Not that on a track you ever would be doing one constant throttle position, just wondering.
Mixin' gas and kickin' ass, Burnin' oil and smellin' royal. Two stroke until I die (which hopefully isn't soon)   If your not mixing gas, your not kicking ass.

No,it won't hurt,it's more for break-in.On the other hand,my buddy and I each bought RZ's that were sitting side by side on the showroom floor.I broke mine in as per the manual. He broke his in on the race track.Thereafter, his would eat mine for lunch,I had to modify mine to come close-then he wanted the mods done to his-which put me way back behind him again. His engine looked better at teardown and ended up lasting longer as well. That's about when i started thinking about break-in-and I've since modified my break in procedure considerably.
