Need fork seal replacement instructions / vids

The fork seals on my Katoom need replaced.  I noticed some fluid on the floor, and traced it back to the forks.  Does anyone have good concise instructions or instructional vids on changing fork seals.

Some of the tools he lists can be "manufactured" on your own to save money. I pretty much always use PVC for make shift drivers. I use a zip lock or saran wrap over the forks to protect the new seals, stuff like that.

My fork seals started leaking, but I cleaned the dust seal on both sides and it stopped. Should I be looking to replace the fork seals or...? Also, is there any way to check the fork oil level or at all?

Get yourself a forkseal driver before you even try it, you can do it with a punch but it's difficult time consuming and risky.

I'm with Coop on this one, I was looking at making a seal driver from some PVC pipe.  No I would never use a punch to drive the seals.  If I tried, I can guarantee I would nick / ding the fork leg.

IMO most of all times the forkseal is dirty and with a business card you can clean the seal quite easily.
Take the dust seal down, and push the business card between the seal and the  fork leg, go around there once or twice till clean oil drops out.

You could refill the forks but preferible is a complete oil change. I prefer atf, I change fork oil every 40 hours.

Get some seal safers mount those and forget about dirty seals.

I've had the bike for 4 years, and have never changed the fork oil, or serviced the forks.  So with that in mind, I know I'm past due for maint.  After watching mand vids, I'm comfortable with everything I need to do except making sure I have the proper oil level in the forks.  I just need to do some more research before I pull the forks.

cnrcpla please don't worry about "robbing" this thread, you have a good question...  one I am trying to wrap my mind around as well.  I just need to do a little more research.

You might want to check the fork itself for wear.

Thanks man    I re-searched it a little, and for my fork (not sure if its different for yours or not) I have to take the fork off the bike and stand it up level, put a piece of something like a dipstick down into the oil and see where it measures. Apparently from what I got, my fork oil is supposed to be 5-6 inches from the top. I am considering doing an oil change after watching those videos, can't hurt at all to set it up with new oil at proper levels. Good luck with your fork seals

A workshop manual is so handy in these situations, on my CR you need to remove the spring first before you set the level.

Wow 4 years, that is overdue I do mine once every 2 or 3 months. 40 to 50 hours of riding actually.

You have to take into consideration with my work schedule, (I'm a consultant, so I'm on the road usually 5 days a week), and then trying to maintain the house, cars, bikes etc, plus keep momma happy, riding time is limited...  but no matter what, I'm way over due
