Ok so, my buddy, who had previously stated that he wanted to sell his 2007 crf250 and get a newer yz250, has bailed on the idea. To do what you might ask? to spend 2 grand on a bike that he has now put more $ in than a new 450f, not including the 2 grand he is currently putting into it, wheels, graphics, whole new carbon exhaust, the list goes on.

He basically said he wouldn't be able to get as much as he wanted out of the 250f so he's going to keep it, and sink more money into it...i just can't understand why he would do it, at this point, he'll NEVER be able to sell it unless the buyer intends to use it as a 2 stroke conversion project.

It just is beyond my capability to comprehend what he's doing and will continue to do, he now has a job to support his habits (his father paid for everything before). I kind of hope it blows on him, so he can realize what he has the hard way, he never had to pay the 1800 + bucks (multiple times i might add) to fix his bike, maybe when he does, he'll switch, but until then, its rev limiter bouncing and valve adjustments in his future.

i'm just so surprised by his stupidity..

i bought a brand spanking new yz250f in oct, well one month ago i traded it for a 05 YZ250 that still had stock tires on it and he gave me some cash.. I love this bike even though it is older its a beast.. some people get caught up in money, i just went for what i liked..

My son is finially ready to get off the quad and back onto a bike.  Of course he wants a 450F stroker...  not in my house..  JK...  I'm counseling him to understand, he has a full time job, but...  if something goes wrong...  he's done.  He could not afford to fix it.  I keep steering him towards mid century 250 smokers.  Even one of his riding buddies told him is he gets a stroker, he needs to get a new one, to protect himself agains against getting a ticking time bomb.  I've even offered to give him my Kattom 300 as I may be picking up a KTM 380.  I'll sell the quad to help pay for the 380.

Some just don't realize we are only trying to help save them from making a big mistake, a mistake that could stop force them out of our sport / hobby.

When you get that 380, let him ride it. All 4T thoughts should quickly go away at that point. ;-)

As for the friend with the CRF250,sometimes you just have to know when to cut your losses and move on.

Hard to believe a teen age child not listening to his father eh? You should have told him the only bike he was allowed to buy was a 4t,he would have had a 2t in no time.

Let them learn the hard way. Unless they get one of the very few four strokes that are actually worth a damn (VERY few), then they will eventually learn. As for the guys switching back to two strokes, good for them

x2. Why bother arguing with silly sasuages when you can stand back, let them make the mistake and THEN you present your evidence as to why it was a mistake. Oh and you get to laugh at them too, thats kinda the best part. I know a guy that just dumped 1800 into a top end. I told him I could do 16 top end jobs for that and he didn't believe me until I showed him the maths.
I learned the hard way, and here I stand one, never to dirty my ass on a four joke again. Well I'm actually sitting at the moment.
