Cervantes touches another absolute triumph in Galicia – Gas Gas Race Results

Despite its great performance, finished second in the E2 class and at the Scratch. A fall prevented Jordi Figueras fight for the podium at E3.
The town of Becerreá (Lugo) has been able to enjoy this weekend of a new show of Ivan Cervantes in his struggle to achieve an absolute victory in the Enduro Spanish Championship. The Gas Gas rider was the only one capable of facing and overcoming the general classification leader, Cristobal Guerrero, but eventually had to cede the top spot of the podium in E2 and the Scratch.

Cervantes began willing to do anything to beat Guerrero, which allowed him to win almost half of the stages and at all times retain winning chances. In fact, the two riders stayed together for almost all of the race and only the second pass through the Enduro Test opened a difference that would ultimately prove insurmountable.

Ivan Cervantes: “The race went well and I am very satisfied. The bike is still evolving positively and we have been again very close to the head and the triumph. The best thing is that we have marked some of the best times of the day and won several tests. Guerrero was not far and, in fact, except in a pass through the Enduro Test, we have always been two seconds up and two seconds down. I will continue fighting for the win and next week, in front my audience, I hope comes the day to finally achieve it. I will not give up and in Mont-roig I will give everything one more time.”

Jordi Figueras made a strong showing at E3, although a sharp drop in the Enduro Test left him somewhat bruised and keep him from fighting for the podium places. Still reached a creditable fourth place finish. They also obtained significant results in this Galician race Josep Rallo, who was eighth in E2; Arnau Solà, eleventh in the same class; Miquel Garcia, seventh in E3; or Christian Ardèvol, who was crowned champion for second consecutive year at the Senior B 2T National Trophy with an EC 250.

Jordi Figueras: “I’m pretty happy with the race, but it hurts a bit the neck and chin after my fall in the Enduro Test. It’s been a pretty hard fall and have even broken the helmet, and although I have been a little dizzy for a while, I was able to finish and add a fourth very important. I hope we all go a little better next week”.

The town of Mont-Roig del Camp, near to Tarragona, host next Sunday’s final round of the Spanish calendar and will decide champions in three classes of the Senior category.

North American Two Stroke Championship (NATSC) Race Recap

On September 16th – 18th Sleepy Hollow MX Park in Frederickburg, PA held the 1st annual North American Two Stroke Championships.

The weekend started for TSM upon arrival late Thursday night. After setting up camp, we decided on a track walk. What did we find?

My new favorite track! Great soil. Great layout. Great people, and some nice signature sections and jumps.

The weekend offered Two Stroke and MX fans in general a great time, and some great racing!

Practice was held on Friday for those willing to skip work and/or school for the event. As the day progressed the track started looking even better than when we arrived.

How were the races? The best I’ve seen in a while! Some fast guys showed up, including our own Jeremy Wendelken.

The A classes were stacked. Some of them include Ty Newcome, Broc Schmelyun, Cody Lunceford, Kyle Sidle, Casey Clarke and Sean Hackley Jr.

I have posted a link below for full race results, but lets talk A class podiums.

On Saturday in 125A, Ty Newcome took 1st overall with a 2-1 on a Suzuki RM 125. Dana Krause took 2nd on a Yamaha with a 3-2. Sean Hackley finished 3rd overall with a 1st and DNF.

250A was very exciting to watch. Fast guys, on some fast smokers!

Broc Scmelyun took 1st overall with a solid 1-1 on his #111 YZ 250. Cody Lunceford claimed 2nd with a 4-3 on his #46 YZ 250. Jeremy Wendelken on his #72 YZ 250 rounded it out with a solid 3-4 for 3rd overall.

Sunday was full of racing, modern and vintage. One of the most exciting races was one of vintage. These guys were riding like they had way more than 4-8″ of suspension travel, it was an awesome sight!

Sundays A classes were amazing as well.

For the 125A class Gregory Pamart took 1st with a 1-1. Addison Kramer took 2nd and C C Aughinbaugh took 3rd. All three on Yamaha’s.

250A was held down by Sean Hackley Jr with a 1-1 on his #18 KTM 250SX. Casey Clark took 2nd with a 2-2 for the day. Our own Jeremy Wendelken takes 3rd on his YZ 250.

Highlight and downfall of the day, Ty Newcome and his YZ 250 went in the pond during 250A moto1. Ty and his YZ are fine.

Brennen threw a leg over his father’s RM and burned up the 250B class. 1st places all weekend. Keep an eye on him, we are!

Georgia Mud and Midnite Pit builds

So what does it take to be a competitor in Motocross? Patience, Skill, and Determination.

Some things in motocross, just like life, are unexpected. You could be riding on the track and smoking all the 4strokes then just like that, your bike wont shift into gear. That’s what happened this past weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park, for Jeremy Wendelken. During practice on Saturday, Jeremy’s gears on his YZ250 went out and it seemed as though racing the following day was out of the question. On a hope and a wish, Jeremy put a call in to Jarman’s Sportcycles. In the late evening hours, Jeremy’s father, Rick, came rolling back into camp with a brand new 2011 YZ250. Charles immediately sprang into action, pulling parts from the old to switch to the new. TSM was determined to have its rider and bike track-ready for the following morning. Working till well after midnite, the whole crew pitched in to make the new YZ race ready. TSM must have did something right! Right off the line, during Jeremy’s first holeshot, the bike did not want to stay down. The power was intense and Jeremy’s skill really kicked in as he made his way around the track. Thru out the day, Jeremy broke the new bike in hard and fast, never once letting up off the accelerator. Ending the day with 1 first place finish and 3 second place finishes, Jeremy and TSM had an awesome day of racing. TSM would like to thank everyone that helped keep Jeremy on the track last weekend. With a special thanks going to Don Mclaughlin for his help and use of tools. And a HUGE thanks to Mr. Jarman sending the new bike out, straight off his showroom floor.

And then there are not so happy endings…

Jeremy was lucky enough to have his mishap the day before the race. But Harley Elliot, like so many other riders, wasn’t so lucky. During his race in Elberton, Georgia, Harley had a bit of a rough go. After a long ride out to the race he was greeted by that lovely and muddy Georgia red clay. The mud would prove to be Harley’s greatest competitor that day. After stalling on flat land, Harley went to go start his 2stroke back up and…well let’s just say the mud decided to eat his kick starter for lunch. Harley sat on the back end of an enduro track for a better part of the race, and still managed to come in 7^th in his class. And thanks to a track photographer, Harley made it out of the woods. Better luck next time Harley. TSM is proud of your endurance and this is just a reminder to all not to let the little things take you out of the game. Harley will be back racing this weekend at Cookson Creek to hopefully make up for his muddy downtime.

Lost Kick Starter

TSM knows all too well the hassle of waiting on parts. And then once you get the parts, you still have to put everything back together. Well this past weekend, TSM’s Northwest Rider, Andrew Cameron was busy slaving over his bike to get it into race condition. Andrew and his YZ spent some quality time together doing a top end rebuild. After finishing his labor of love, he then did some editing for TSM and put together a SICK video of his fellow teammate, Jeremy, riding. It’s really great to see all of our team pull together to make TSM the best it can be. Make sure to check out Andrew’s video under our forum along with all of his other awesome creations on YOUTUBE.

Move over Bubba Stewart. Get out the way, Ryan V. You guys hear those two-strokes closing in on you? Our TSM Family is growing! Under our Racer Profiles, in our forum, we have 3 promising riders making their way through all the 4-strokes and making TSM proud. In case you haven’t read up on these boys, we will give you the run-down.
First up is #721, ANDREW CAMERON. Beginning at age 5 on a pw50, Andrew has been moving up the ranks and his bike size. Now at age 16 and on a YZ125 his clutch and bike control are phenomenal. He races in the Northwest Region of the U.S. and posts up some sweet riding times. And let me tell you, This kid does it all. Not only is Andrew a rider for TSM, he is also TSM’s A/V Editor. His vid’s are like his riding, VISCIOUS! He has taken his two passions of riding and film producing and smashed it all together to create videos that stir emotions while watching. We hope to see great things in the future from Andrew, both on and off the track. Definitely check out Andrew’s videos and his rider updates under our forum!

Next up, #594, Harley Elliot. Coming out of this past weekend with two more podium wins, Harley is on fire. Racing two series, he is 2nd in points in SORCS and has a commendable lead in the Tri-State Arenacross series. Standing at 6’0 and 180lbs at just 16 years old, he can throw his KTM 250sx around the track with ease and speed. In just the 4 short years he has been riding, Harley has acquired the attention from such sponsors as FMF, Acerbis, and of course TSM. If you happen to be in the Georgia area where Harley hails from, be sure to check this kid out.

This past weekend TSM packed up and headed out to Budds Creek to support our last rider rounding out the TSM Trinity, #72 Jeremy Wendelken. To say Jeremy is good is an understatement. He exuberates strength, speed, and determination when he climbs on his YZ250 at just 15 years old. Riding in both the 250A class and 450A, Jeremy rules the track with his precision riding and killer cornering. Jeremy’s family has roots in racing, with his inspiration coming from his father Rick, who also raced the #72 and got Jeremy started at 6 years old. With a ton of wins under his belt, you would be surprised to find that his motor is still stock and this kid is still posting up some wicked ride times. Jeremy is spending his week at the TSM Headquarters getting his bike tweeked in preparation for his next victories at VMP this weekend. Come check him out!

Chase Sexton delivers Cobra’s first-ever 65cc title at Florida’s Mini Os!

Big news out of Gainesville’s (Fla.) Gatorback MX Park this past week was Illinois’ Chase Sexton racing the brand new 2011 Cobra CX65 to victory in the 10-11 65cc Stock class at the 39^th annual Thor Winter National Olympics, presented by Pro Circuit, Nov. 22-27.

Sexton’s win – the first-ever for the Cobra CX65 at the Mini Os – highlighted a week of great racing for the Cobra factory at the year’s last major amateur competition motocross get together.

“Can’t say enough about Chase’s effort – he was only a couple spots away from winning the 65cc Olympiad title,” said Cobra President Sean Hilbert. “Chase made the 2011 Cobra 65 look really, really good in its debut race.” Also running well in the 65cc 7-9 classes was the UK’s Dylan Woodcock, who placed 5^th in the Stock class and 4^th in the Modified class.

Hilbert continued: “Plus, our little guys did great in the 4-6 classes – Michigan’s Jaiden Taylor, Pennsylvania’s Corey Passieu and Georgia’s Gage Linville. And though we were a little bit light in the 7-8 50 class (in terms of Cobra factory racers making the trip to Gainesville), Jack Rogers (Missouri) and Parker Mashburn (Texas) really came together in the MX division.”

In the 51cc 7-8 Stock MX class, Jack The (‘Lil) Ripper Rogers was on a tear, making up for a 3^rd place finish in the SX class by dominating MX field on his King Cobra for the win – Jack’s first-ever major 50cc national title. Mashburn then made it a 1-2 effort for Cobra to close out the 51cc competition on the weekend. And the 4-6 classes, both 51cc Oil Inject and Stock, were all Cobra as the 50JR bikes swept all 12 1^st through 3^rd podium finishes available.

3RD ROUND OF THE SUPERCROSS EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The third round of the Supercross European Championship was held yesterday, Saturday the 6th of November, in front of a public 100.000 people, crowded around the track of EICMA Moto Live in Milan (Italy).

In the first heat of SX1 class the victory went to French Cedric Soubeyras (KTM), who started behind, but demonstrated to be the strongest today by winning the race in front of French Fabien Izoird (Suzuki) and French Cyrille Coulon (Suzuki). The second heat was strongly fought with final victory going to French Gregory Aranda (Kawasaki) in front of French Kounsith Vongsana (KTM) and the overall winner of the day Cedric Soubeyras. In the SX2 class the victory went to Italian Samuele Bernardini (KTM) in front of Italian Simone Zecchina (Suzuki) and Swiss Killian Aubeson (KTM). In Milan was held also the second round of the SX Rookie Championship with the dominance of French riders and the victory of the French Dan Houzet (KTM).

The provisional rankings see in the SX1 class the leadership of Gregory Aranda with 69 points in front of Cedric Soubeyras with 61 points. Spanish Carlos Fernandez Macanas is the leader of the SX2 class with 34 points and French Thomas Do (KTM) is leading the SX Rookie class with 25 points.

The next round will be held on the 13th of November in Genova (Italy).

Round 3 – Super X Report – Launceston, Tasmania

Once again a cool and wet afternoon greeted riders and fans for the third round of Super X in Launceston, Tasmania. The night started off with another first, with a team relay event that pitted Australia’s best riders against the USA’s best riders. Each rider completed two laps, and had to tag the next rider, who then went flat out for two laps. Team Australia got out of blocks well and lead the event for the first eight laps, with some great rides from Jake and Matt Moss, Tye Simmonds and Jay Marmont. It wasn’t until the last round where Kevin Windham made time on Daniel Reardon and was able to make a pass stick through a rhythm section to give Team USA the win. A great idea that gave some great battles, and another different format of racing.

Once again the one on one eliminator for the number one gate choice provided some great racing, with some big moves on a track that gave riders plenty of line choices. A big talking point was the move Mike Alessi put on Jake Moss. Alessi rode straight at Moss coming into a corner and there was big contact, but Jake still managed to hang on for the victory. Once again it came down to a battle between Windham and Brayton for the number one gate pick, with Brayton leading up until the second last corner, when he washed the front on the entry to the corner and Windham was able to ride past him to the victory.

To the lites class, and Robbie Marshall had put in a great ride in qualifying on his YZ 250, giving him a good gate pick. Unfortunately the other 250 two stroke campaigner Kim Ashkenazi had a big moment in qualifying, casing a triple and breaking his top triple clamp. With none of the Suzuki teams having a clamp to fit his RM 250, Kim was forced to watch the racing from the sidelines. The lites class would be racing two 14

lap races in the double header format. The first moto for the lites was hectic with all the top factory riders doing battle, while Marshall was left with a mid pack start and was forced to work his way forward. He was able to find some good lines and some good traction on a track that was getting very slick in some sections and was able to make it up to 8th place. A solid result. Riders then headed straight to the start line to do it all again after a five minute break. The gate dropped for the second race and Robbie Marshall was able to get a great start, sitting in the top four on the first lap. With Ryan Marmont leading, Robbie Marshall was able to capitalize on a few mistakes from other riders and made his way into second place chasing the leader Ryan Marmont. Marshall then proceeded to do battle with PJ Larsen, Matt Moss and some of Australia’s top factory riders. He was able to settle into a good rhythm sitting comfortably in fourth place up until the last lap. Ryan Marmont then made a huge mistake when battling for the lead with Lawson Bopping, catching a tough block, and going down. Robbie Marshall was able to ride around the outside of Marmont and into third place. Two corners later, Marshall crossed the finish line to finish the second moto of the double header in 3rd. This gave Robbie Marshall fourth place overall for the night, and lifted him inside the top ten in the championship. An awesome result for Robbie Marshall and his YZ 250 two stroke.

For the Open class, the format this week would be survival, with four 8 lap races, with the 5 lowest place riders from each moto dropping out. This saw riders putting it all on the line just to ensure that they were on the line for the next moto. With some great battles in the first three motos, it was the fourth and last moto that everyone had been waiting for. The top five to qualify for this moto was Justin Brayton, Kevin Windham, Josh Hansen, Jay Marmont and Jake Moss. Mike Alessi and Daniel Reardon were surprise omissions, not qualifying through from the third moto. It was Hansen with the holeshot, with Brayton, Marmont and Windham in tow. Unfortunately for Jake Moss he crashed in the first turn and would have to try and catch the pack. He then made another mistake while charging and went down very hard. The battle was then at the front with Brayton putting a clean move on Josh Hansen with 3 laps to go. The two riders then continued to trade positions, up until one of the craziest things you will see at a motocross event. Hansen laid it all on the line to make a pass for the lead after seeing the last lap board. He couldn’t make the pass stick and Brayton put a gap on Hansen. As Brayton rode around expecting to see the checkered flag, he was once again shown the last lap board, and had to complete another lap. Hansen then had to charge to try and bridge the gap that Brayton had on him. He was not able to close that gap enough, and Brayton would hang on for the win. Josh Hansen followed in second place, with Windham in third, Jay Marmont in fourth, and Jake Moss not finishing, but being awarded fifth place. Some great, exciting racing on a great Super X track.

Two Strokes Dominates Women Class At Ohio International Raceway, Ravenna Ohio

Ohio International Raceway had 16 Women at the gate in the highly competitive Women’s class.

More women are switching to the two-stroke and doing well. At this race the top three riders were mounted on two-strokes.

Round 2 – Super X Report – Canberra

A cold and wet afternoon greeted the riders and fans alike for the second round of the Super X in Canberra. A technical, slippery track was very hard to handle for the riders in practice and timed qualifying, with some spectacular crashes, alongside some very competitive lap times. The two stroke riders of Robbie Marshall and Kim Ashkenazi did very well in timed qualifying considering the conditions, and at one stage were second and third in their group qualifying, and easily made it though to the night heat races.

Heat race one saw both two stroke riders line up against a highly talented field, with the top 9 qualifying directly to the main. Qualifying is very tough this year, as there is no LCQ race, just the top 9 from each heat qualifying directly through to the Main Event, with the promoters choice giving out the last four spots on the gate, either to a rider who is running top 10 in championship points, or riders placing 10th and 11th in the heats. So there is plenty of pressure on the riders to ensure they qualify. Heat one could not have gone any better for both Robbie Marshall and Kim Ashkenazi, with both jumping out of the gate well, settling in to a good rhythm, running consistently fast lap times, and finishing in 4th and 5th, behind Matt Moss, Lawson Bopping and Codie Mackie. A great result for the riders, as well as all the two stroke fans.

The big news for the second round of Super X was that Kevin Windham was in town, and even from the first practice, everyone knew he meant business. Throwing down some insanely fast lap times in qualifying, he was the man to beat in Canberra. Seeing him ride is something that just has to be witnessed first hand.

The one on one eliminator races once again provided plenty of action, with plenty of bar banging, as the track provided several different options for lines, with plenty of passing available if you held that throttle open. Again, the final came down to the two big American names, with Justin Brayton going head to head with Kevin Windham for the number one qualifying position. The pair traded positions, but Brayton was able to hold out a charging Windham for the win, giving Brayton first gate pick for the open final.

The format for the finals in Canberra was to be 3 six lap races for the lites, and 3 seven lap races for the opens. Riders would get five minutes break between races, before the gate once again dropped and the field charged into the first corner.

The lites finals rolled around, and the top 22 lites riders lined up for their first of three races. The rain had held off since qualifying, and the track looked to be in supreme condition. Both two stroke riders had good gate picks, and once that gate dropped it was Kim Ashkenazi rocketing out of the gate to holeshot the first race and battle with the top lites riders of Matt Moss and PJ Larsen, with Ashkenazi holding his own. A couple of small mistakes cost him several positions, and crossed the line in 9th after a great ride. Robbie Marshall had been squeezed into the first turn after not getting a great jump, but charged to the finish and crossed the line in 12th.

5 minutes later, the 30 second board was once again being shown, and the revs went up ready to jump for race two. Kim Ashkenazi once again jumped out of the gate like a man possesed, and holeshot the second race convincingly, and lead the race, holding off Australia’s top factory riders. Ashcan was on the gas, and after looking like earning a top 5 finish, made a big mistake, going down, and struggled to get re-started, and ended up 18th after going a lap down. Robbie Marshall had to once again deal with a bad start, but charged hard and made plenty of good passes to finish the race in 11th.

Riders once again lined up for the last of the three races, and this time Ashcan wasn’t going to holeshot, but both two stroke riders charged into the first turn, with Robbie Marshall getting inside the top 5, and battling with some top factory riders. Robbie showed very impressive speed, and his smooth fluid style is awesome to watch. Robbie continued to charge and was making time on the guys in front of him, as well as holding off the Factory Kawasaki of Luke Arbon. Robbie looked set for a great finish, until on lap 4 going into the slick first turn, the rear tyre began to slide, and could not be saved. Robbie had gone down, and Luke Arbon who was following his line into the first turn crashed into his YZ250 that was lying on the ground. This caused a tangled mess and both riders could not seperate the bikes. The pack had caught and passed the two riders who were stranded in the first turn of the track, and both would have to finish the race well back. Robbie crossed the line in 20th, which gave him 19th overall for the round, which is not a reflection of how well he had ridden. Kim Ashkenazi had a solid finish in race 3 after not getting a start as good as his first two, but made some good passes to finish the third race in 12th. This gave Kim 14th overall for the night.

Robbie Marshall now sits in 13th in the Championship points, with Kim Ashkenazi one spot behind him in 14th. Both riders are very motivated now, and are looking for some top results in the up coming rounds.

The open riders lined up to do battle once the lites podium celebrations had finished, and from the very first race, it was obvious it was going to be Kevin Windham’s night. KDub got good starts, and even holeshot the third race, and won every moto quite convincingly. His speed and effortless style was amazing to watch, and I think if needed, had a bit in reserve. Josh Hansen rode well, but had no answers for the man out in front, and Hansen crossed the line in each race in 2nd place. Justin Brayton, Jay Marmont and Mike Alessi rounded out the top 5. Hansen now leads the championship race from Brayton and Marmont.

Round 3 of the Super X championship will be held in Tasmania in one weeks time, where once again new formats will be used, with the lites racing two 10 lap finals, and the Opens racing 4 six lap races back to back.
