Ivan repeated second in E2 and third in the Scratch while Jordi Figueras ends sixth in E3 after a difficult attempt to recover.

Ivan Cervantes couldn’t spring a surprise in the third round of the Enduro Spanish Championship, played this weekend in Priego de Cordoba (Cordoba), after a hard day which was again second in Enduro 2 and third in the absolute standings.

The Gas Gas rider found himself penalized by a drop in the first Extreme Test of the day and because all the other tests of the day were particularly short. This prevented him from getting a good rhythm and open differences, so that although his recovery enabled him to finish to three seconds to the second place Scratch, occupied by Juha Salminen, let him not prevent Cristobal Guerrero highlighted in his head. The same situation was moved to the classification of E2, where Ivan had to settle for second after Guerrero, while Joan Barreda was more than 38 seconds behind the catalan..

Jordi Figueras also hadn’t a good start and spent much of Cordoba race trying to recover the seconds lost in the fall he suffered on the opening test, the same that failed Ivan. As happened to Cervantes, the characteristics of the tests became very complicated go up beyond the sixth-place in its class. Josep Rallo had less luck in E1, and he had to leave during the first round to rally.

The team will move directly to Francavilla di Sicilia, which next weekend will host the Italian Grand Prix, the third round of the Enduro World Championship. Ivan goes on to defend his third place in E2 and Christophe Nambotin his second place in E3.

Iván Cervantes ”I haven’t started anything good the day, because in the first stage I crashed and I lost more than five seconds decisive. I have had to recover but the tests were so short than aren’t favorable to open differences,
but I managed to move from fifth
to third Scratch. Cristobal has had a great race, like Juha Salminen, but I’m sure I could have been a little higher in the standings. Still, I think we should be happy”.

Jordi Figueras “I suffered a fall in the first Extreme Test, just start the race, and I was unable to recover the time I lost. Here, with a tests
with a length too short, only one
mistake was very expensive and I paid it with the sixth place in E3. I’m not very satisfied, and I just hope that in Italy all goes a bit better”.

Look for both #1 Bobby Garrison and #99 Jamie Lanza aboard identical Zip-Ty Racing prepped WR300s to defend Husky’s heritage during the MTA World 2-Stroke Championships to be held at Glen Helen Raceway on Sunday, April 3rd. In addition to going for the glory, the $4,500 purse should provide plenty of incentive for top pros to park their 4-strokes in favor of burning some castor bean oil this weekend!

Garrison on his way to winning the 2010 2-Stroke World Championships.

Last year, Garrison gave Husqvarna its first major U.S. motocross win in nearly a decade in front of a packed house by defeating a field of top level-talent. “I am looking forward to busting out my trusty Husky WR300 and winning again,” says Garrison who is using the break in the WORCS series to defend the World 2-Stroke title. Bobby is a good bet to win again after a recent WORCS victory and the fact that he is just back from San Felipe where he teamed up with Shane Esposito and Steve Hengveld to finish 2nd in the Baja 250!
Zip-Ty Racing Husqvarna team member Jamie Lanza is also taking a break from the WORCS series and looking forward to a better race than he experienced last weekend in Arizona. “Hopefully the only bath I’ll be taking this week will be champagne,” jokes Jamie of the dunking he suffered at Lake Havasu last weekend. “The course had a lagoon jump that was ‘do or die’… and I died! I hit a rock under the sand approaching the lip of the jump and got sideways. I straightened out just as I went off the lip but had no drive and came up short, completely submerging myself and my Husqvarna TE310. I was a hero for the spectators, but very disappointed that I cost the team a top 10 finish,” says the rueful Lanza. “I’ll ride the WR300 Motocross Action Magazine test bike this weekend while my 4-stroke TE310 dries out!”

Jamie Lanza in the drink.

The racing on Sunday kicks off with the Old Timers MX for riders 40+ years old and then wraps up with the 2nd Annual MTA World 2-Stroke Championships. Go to www.glenhelen.com for more details on this weekend’s racing. “We want 2-stroke fans to Ride More… just like their 4-stroke counterparts,” says Husqvarna’s National Marketing Manager Corey Eastman. “We are very proud of being the defending World 2-Stroke champions and look forward to winning it again this weekend!”

Next WORCS Race: April 15-17, 2011 – Cahuilla Creek, Anza, CA

In a statement set to shock Maico enthusiasts around the world, British manufacturers Maico International are pleased to announce the brand name will be heading to the U.K. very soon.

Ownership of the name has proved to be an elusive mystery and an urban myth for many years with much speculation as to the possibility that a document was ever in existence due to so many companies now publicly trading in the manufacture of Maico branded parts and bikes. Maico International can now reveal they have been aware of the full circumstances surrounding ownership of the name for some time.

Many people in the industry and indeed numerous hardcore supporters of the once legendary bikes have voiced their own personal opinions as to what happened to the name following the highly publicised bankruptcy of the original company in 1984. Continuing to trade under the control of members of the Maisch family until 1987 the company was subsequently sold on to two different owners with the final demise being under the Rodem company banner in the Netherlands in 1999.

Exhaustive searches have provided information received by Maico International which show that the original brand name of Maico, as previously owned by the Maisch family, was not incorporated into the formation of Dutch Rodem Company and a new name was registered by the current owner (a Dutch man) on the 19th of November 1999.

As the final details of the purchase of the name are being confirmed and with several distributors and dealers poised, the ongoing development of the bikes and the substantial investment made by Maico International has been well documented in the industry media

Grateful thanks go to two people in particular for their support, Toby Opferman and John Nicholas.

Back with a double whammy Maico International are pleased to welcome what is arguably one of the worlds leading M.X. clothing brands, “No fear” as a new sponsor for 2011. Dunlop Maxima rider Neil Berry will be covered from head to toe in their products for the 2011 campaign on an

M.M.X. in a variety of engine sizes competing in European and U.K. events as well as a visit stateside later this year. In a deal brokered by Andy Sutton, director of the areas leading “No Fear” distributor, Poole Motorcycles, Neil Berry told us “We are very pleased to be working directly with No Fear they have a high quality product and have provided us with a comprehensive package in terms of support, we are looking forward to building a good relationship with them”.

In terms of machinery the worlds most powerful standard production 250 two stroke will be rolling on to the track this year as Maico International confirm the status of their new entry level engine as a Class leader. It was well documented last year that another companies 250 two stroke was the most powerful production motor at 49 H.P. and although unwilling to confirm the precise output of the new British built 250cc power-plant Maico International quote the figure as being “substantially fifty something”. Each new M.M.X. purchased will come with its own certificate of authenticity along with a copy of the engines dyno readout.

To many stalwart Maico fans this maybe a little bewildering as the most recent previously manufactured 250cc engine prior to this has been quoted on various web sites as developing 54 horsepower, Lesley White explains “We have had several of the previous 250cc motors in question on dyno’s and all of them produced figures less than 40 H.P which is substantially lower than the 54 hp claimed. It is generally accepted that figures will differ slightly depending on the machine used to achieve the readings but this is a massive and unacceptable difference. Each new M.M.X. purchased will come with its own certificate of authenticity along with a copy of the dyno readout from the engine fitted in the bike”

With a six engine line-up scheduled for 2012, development of the all new 125 is already underway and is expected to follow its larger siblings in performance terms when it’s unveiled later this year.

After a highly successful and historic season of competition, MX Sports Pro Racing presents the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship schedule.

The 2011 American Motocross schedule will consist of 12 rounds, with locations from California to New England. The series includes the best motocross riders from across the globe and is recognized as the most prestigious motocross championship on the planet.

The 2011 season kicks off on Saturday, May 21 with the historic Hangtown Motocross Classic, which is held at the Prairie City Off-Highway Vehicle Park in Sacramento, Calif. The series will once again travel the country and conclude on Saturday, September 10, at Pala Raceway, which is just north of San Diego.

“We’re fortunate to boast the best motocross facilities in the world in the Lucas Oil Motocross Championship,” said MX Sports Vice President Davey Coombs. “Several of our tracks have hosted national events for nearly four decades, including such legendary race tracks as RedBud, Unadilla, High Point and more, while our newer facilities present the vision of the future for American Motocross. The 2011 season – which will be the 40th year of this tour – is going to be another epic chapter in American Motocross.

“We have also been exploring several new facilities in the Southeast,” added Coombs. “The area is one of the most popular regions of the country for off-road motorcycles, and it is the hope of MX Sports that we will be able to announce a new addition to the schedule for 2012.”

Each stop of the 12-round championship will showcase the premier 450 Class, featuring reigning national champion Ryan Dungey, along with the 250 Class, which will crown a new champion in 2011 with the graduation of 2010 title holder Trey Canard into the premier division.

Additionally, the MotorcycleUSA.com Women’s Motocross Championship will be included at eight rounds of the series – Hangtown, Freestone, Thunder Valley, RedBud, Spring Creek, Moto-X 338, Steel City, and Pala. Led by defending champion Jessica Patterson, who claimed her record sixth title last season, the nation’s fastest females will add to the excitement of the 2011 championship series.

With information on the 125 sketchy at best, the general consensus of opinion seems to base reliability issues as the reason the motor disappeared from the otherwise formidable line up, yet no-one appears to have been able to pin point what those issues were and why they were apparently not addressed.

1979 Maico 125

Having gained access to what may be described as privileged information regarding the 125 motor earlier this year in Europe, Maico International are pleased to announce that an all new 125cc motocross bike is expected to break cover towards the end of next year in preparation for the release of the 2012 range.

Taking up the lead in the design and development of the 125 power-plant Neil Berry is working closely with the firms C.A.D. designer and illusive F.1. Engineering Guru in a bid to provide the optimum motor in its class.

“Just like all the other motors in the range we have developed, certain aspects of the true Maico spirit is maintained in the power characteristics, and combining this with a more modern ethos and approach to engineering we are confident the 125 will perform accordingly” said a very enthusiastic Neil Berry.

With innovative new products introduced in to the range the company has been the U.K. market leader in its field for over fifteen years and is continuing to grow with the recent appointment of a U.S.A. distributor. www.proclean-racingusa.com

Unlike many companies, Maico Internationals ethos has always been the building of long term relationships with sponsors and associates, and is proud to be supported by Pro-clean for the third year. Neil Berry told us, “Our results on the track this year have been nothing to write about, largely due to the operation on my arm, so we are naturally very proud to maintain our support from pro-clean for the third year running and would like to thank Garry and the team for all their help, we are looking forward to getting out on track in 2011”

Providing the wow factor on the outside, billet ally casings will adorn the factory power-plant reducing the overall weight of the unit. Providing the same wow factor on the inside and using the same process that is used in many Formula One engines, the crankshaft and complete gearbox is coated in titanium nitride which drastically reduces the friction and increases durability and wear by up to three times and ultimately provides increased horsepower.

The current power-valve system is retained but is modified in its design and is made from titanium and fitted with a titanium spring.

Commenting on the options Neil Berry said “From a mechanics point of view the inside of the engine looks as good as the outside, as the nitride coating provides a gold colour finish- it almost seems a shame to cover it in oil”.

The factory engine will be available in all engine sizes and further spec is expected to be released soon, although please note there is no power valve fitted to the 700!.
