TV Broadcast schedule

The upcoming 2012 AMA Supercross Championship will feature 11 live broadcasts on SPEED TV. Last year the network experienced a 24% increase in its ratings, with heightened interest overseas from such countries as Chad Reed’s hometown of Australia. Coupled with the increased coverage of AMA Motocross, next year will be one of the most televised seasons of the sport.

Feld Motor Sports announced today the television package for the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, which – for the first time ever – includes 11 live broadcasts on SPEED and nine hours on CBS Sports.
For the first time in the sport’s history, SPEED will broadcast live coverage from the following 11 races: Anaheim Race 1, Phoenix, San Diego, Arlington, Atlanta, St. Louis, Daytona, Indianapolis, Toronto, Seattle and Las Vegas.

“The last few seasons of Monster Energy Supercross on SPEED have provided great storylines and fantastic racing,” said SPEED President Hunter Nickell. “Being able to deliver a record number of races live on SPEED in 2012 is a testament to the growing interest in the series and the commitment to continue that growth by our partners at Feld Motor Sports and the team here at SPEED.”

CBS Sports will provide next day coverage at Los Angeles, Oakland, Anaheim Race 2, Houston, New Orleans and Salt Lake City. In addition, CBS Sports will air a Monster Energy Supercross season preview on December 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET, a Monster Energy Supercross special on February 26 at Noon ET and a Monster Energy Supercross season recap show on May 5 at Noon ET.

“On the heels of the greatest season ever, the increase in live coverage on SPEED, and the network coverage on CBS Sports is another step forward for the sport,” said Charlie Mancuso, president, Feld Motor Sports. “This elevates the riders, the sponsors and the sport to a higher level and provides the loyal fans the most comprehensive television package Monster Energy Supercross has ever had.”

Host Ralph Sheheen will be joined by color analyst and former Supercross class champion Jeff Emig, while Erin Bates will return as pit reporter.

In 2011, television ratings on SPEED increased 24%, which included eight live broadcasts, up two from 2010, and CBS Sports provided nine hours of network coverage that yielded a 21% increase in ratings.

Similarly, Internationally, Monster Energy Supercross was broadcast in 181 countries. Highlighting the international interest was a 66% increase in Australia, home of former two-time Supercross class champion Chad Reed, during Q1, besting NFL Playoff coverage.

You got it; he develops his own Port Fuel Injection System.

Over the past few years, Richard Bruckner from High Gain Tuning has been sharing his vast knowledge of Direct & Port Fuel Injection systems with his two stroke fan base. Richard is an expert in the field having worked as an engineer for General Motors. His expertise in fuel injection, over 31 years worth has gathered the attention of many two stroke Powersports enthusiasts. When it comes to engine management, fuel injection is his passion.

Richards other passion is in designing, building and tuning High Performance two stroke engines with fuel injection. Word of Richards personal builds have spread through the two stroke community worldwide with request for a system the average tuner could install.

After speaking with two stroke engine builders, tuners and racers it became obvious it was time for a system with self intelligence as fuel injection was not at the top of anyone’s knowledge base. With that set as a personal priority, High Gain Tuning has developed an easy to install plug and play fuel injection system programmed exclusively for two-strokes. The HGT fuel injection system only needs your input of the engine’s cc size to get started. The available systems ship with the OS pre-calibrated knowing all of the perimeters needed to fire right up.

This is not a one size fits all box overloaded with drivers requiring dozens if not hundreds of hours of set-up time with little to no hope of ever running at all little lone correctly.

Richard worked with the Orbital / Synerject DiTech system for the last 4 years. “Unfortunately, there are no performance advantages” but quite a few disadvantages. Orbital / Synerject will not allow their system to be modified (once produced) for off road performance. “I have contacted them both and no sum of money would convince them otherwise.”

Direct injection is designed for ultra low emissions and moderate power, not for the performance industry. They are very finicky and costly to service. The biggest issue the air assisted DiTech’s have is the natural formulation of a non combustible emulsion of condensed water with two stroke oil vapor much like what is drained out the bottom of an air compressor tank.

This flows through the air assist system and is injected with the fuel which causes a misfire. Even though Aprilia is aware of the issue and has even gone as far as producing a drain kit for the emulsion, most Aprilia Dealers just refer their clients to High Gain Tuning for service. “We can easily fix any Ditech issue, but they still are what they are, ultra low emission moderate performance engines. For performance, (Direct Injection) is not the answer.”

With the High Gain Tuning Port Fuel Injection System you can have your cake and eat it too.

High Gain Tuning’s Port Fuel Injection system can be installed on a ground up two stroke build or as a replacement for a carbureted application resulting in better performance and lower emissions. Some of the performance advantages of the HGT fuel injection system vs. Carbureted two stroke engines include;

1. Better performance though accurate fuel management and atomization, nearly 10% more peak horsepower as measured on the dyno.

2. Increased bottom end torque, due to fuel being injected on demand rather than needing air speed to draw it into the engine.

3. Larger throttles bodies, intake manifolds and reed blocks can be used to increase air flow since the diameter does not affect fuel flow or atomization.

4. HGT fuel Injection systems contain 192 load based fuel trimming cells vs. 3 carbureted circuits, providing instant throttle response at any rpm or load.

5. Load based ignition timing instead of fixed or linear.

6. HGT PFI engines can literally run upside down with no variation in power or fuel mixture due to vibration or g-forces.

7. Immediate restart if laid down or flipped. No way to flood the engine even when transporting.

8. Nothing to disassemble or remove to change fuel calibrations. All changes can be performed via RS232 cable or optional wireless module.

9. Different calibrations will rarely be required, as compared to carburetor jet changes, because the HGT PFI system utilizes a coolant sensor, air intake sensor and barometric pressure sensor, so fuel trim self adjusts for changing barometric and ambient conditions including under racing conditions. For example this system is extremely beneficial in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb competition because the fuel trim is re-calibrated for changing altitude and temperature conditions.

10. Easy starting at any temperature. No manual choking required.

11. Lubrication can be accomplished via pre-mix, mechanical injection or ECU controlled solenoid injection.

12. Optional wireless interface allows all data to be recorded trackside for live viewing or later playback.

13. Optional O2 sensor can be installed and data logged to facilitate tuning then removed for open loop operation.

Some of the Emissions Based advantages of the HGT FI system include;

1. Closed fuel system, no open evaporative venting or dangerous vapors.

2. Better fuel economy through better atomization

3. Lower emission through better fuel and ignition management

4. Closed loop and catalyst systems are available

5. Less fuel is consumed during deceleration via decell fuel enleanment and decell fuel cut-off calibrations if an external oil pump is used.

6. Self diagnostics with included MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

The heart of the system (ECU) uses the latest Freescale 16 bit microprocessor, S12P, which combines High Performance with low cost including Freescale’s latest small-engine ASIC MC33812, a highly integrated all-in-one chip, including fuel injection driver, ignition driver, voltage regulator, etc.

The ECU offerings are compact in size and easy to install supporting two-stroke displacements from 40cc to 400cc per cylinder. Current production supports twins up to 800cc. Triples and custom four cylinder engines can easily be accommodated with additional drivers. The HGT PFI System can support engines spinning up to 16,000 rpm via a staged dual injection strategy.

To make changes as easy as a mouse click, HGT has developed their own proprietary self tuning software (HGT CAL) for full engine control capabilities, including communications, diagnostics, calibrations and much more at no additional cost.

What does it take to make entire calibration and “jetting” changes using the HGT PFI system? Watch this video for the answer.

Richard and the folks at HGT will develop a PFI system for any two stroke. Systems already developed and Dyno tuned can be purchased and installed outside of HGT with little effort. To do an engine in house HGT

rarely needs more than the engine and pipe.

Three-time National Enduro Champion, Russell Bobbitt, has been a “two-stroker” throughout his career with KTM and has won all three of his championships aboard his 250 XC race machine. After witnessing his success and trying the new 2012 models, Buttrick and Mullins have decided to give it a whirl.

Charlie Mullins

Now all three Factory FMF/KTM Team riders will line up for the next AMA National Enduro round on their two-stroke race bikes. Mullins, the reigning National Enduro Champion, commented, “I can’t wait to race on the new two-stroke. After racing a four-stroke for so long, you forget how much fun the two-strokes can be. I’ve been riding it the past few weeks and can’t believe how easy it is to ride in and out of the tight trees. I feel very confident on the new bike.”

It’s no wonder the entire team is switching to the two-strokes after KTM has continuously improved the model line over the past few years. For 2012, the two-stroke machines received an abundance of chassis upgrades including a new frame, a new one-piece cast aluminum swingarm and a linkage suspension system.

The motor has been shipped off to Eric Gorr and Forward Motion, who had signed on as a bike sponsor and has now signed on to become a TSM site sponsor. In addition to Forward Motion, Motocrosstracks.com and Lineman MX Training have also joined the TSM Sponsors Family. Please check out their websites and be sure to follow them on all social networks.

We would also like to welcome and say thank you to our new bike sponsors as well. Boyesen will be sending over some items to help get our bike race ready and we have Pete Baltera stitching up a custom seat for the 144. TSM is excited to see our community’s bike raced at local tracks around the country.

Grass-roots- adjective

of, pertaining to, or involving the common people, especially as contrasted with or separable from an elite.

This word is perfect for TSM’s vision of our family bike build. Some have questioned our choice of bike for this build. Why so old? Why a Yamaha? The way TSM sees it, this bike build symbolizes our community. We are the common people, we are contrasting with an elite. We aren’t 20 elite riders in a stadium. We are the thousands of people on our local tracks that race for the love of racing, not for the endorsements and the money. We are the parents, and friends, and fans that come out every weekend to cheer our racers on. We are the ones that keep 2-strokes alive.

This build is to mirror how anyone in our TSM family can build a race ready bike. This is to show realistically, how a parent can keep their child racing and not be a millionaire to do it. This bike is to show how our TSM community doesn’t care if we have the newest bike out there, we care that we have a TWO-STROKE out there. This bike is our Family’s bike.

Our list of sponsors is growing! And so is the excitement. At TSM, the energy is unbelievable as the bike build moves forward. We will have a poll posted later for voting, so keep checking back with the forum. And like last time, voting will close on Sunday.

It is a great day for a bike build! Now that the bike has been stripped down and the frame is under prep, the fun part really begins. We can’t wait to see what Eric Gorr and Forward Motion have in store for our motor. So while Eric works on the heart of our build, Power Play has its work cut out with getting layers of paint off the frame and sandblasting all of the YZ’s usable parts.

If any of you keep up with TSM on Facebook, you might recall a post to our local morning dj Elliot with Elliot in the Morning on DC101. The station has agreed to send us some stickers for our bike. Please be sure to show them some appreciation by hitting the “like” button on their Facebook page.

Indigo Racer Power Sports has come aboard not only as a bike sponsor, but a TSM site sponsor as well. Indigo will be donating parts throughout the build as the need arises. Indigo is also offering a 10% discount to ALL of our forum members. The perks of 2-strokes, now you can save money on your money saving two-stroke.

Ryan Sipes, Professional AMA rider and Owner of ProLogics MX and Offroad, will be supplying our bike with custom wheels and suspension. A poll will be posted to choose the wheel color for Ryan and his team to give our shoes some life. We have decided to stick with the TSM theme(makes sense right?) and you will be able to vote on the rim and hub colors with different Black and Red combinations.

UPS showed up this morning with a box full of bearings, chain rollers and wheel spacers. Thanks to All Balls Racing for providing what our project needed to get rolling!

When we take the TSM bike to the track we want it to stand out. Illusion Grafix will be just the ones to do that. They have signed up to provide our bike with some personality and will be putting together a few graphics options for us to vote on later in the build. Tonight, a poll will be posted to pick the color plastics that their graphics will join. Illusion Grafix offers custom made graphics for your dirtbike along with all your other toys at great prices.

Looks like it will be another busy week for everyone at TSM and involved sponsors! A special Thanks to Mike at Indigo Racer, for taking time out of his busy schedule to hand deliver parts to Power Play and TSM.

NOW GO VOTE.

TSM has been abuzz with some exciting news! TSM has teamed up with Eric Gorr and his company Forward Motion to make this worn out 125, a 144 work of art. In case you’ve been living under a rock and are unfamiliar with the talented Mr. Gorr, he is the author of the Motocross & Off-Road Performance Handbooks as well as several specialized publications. I’ve even heard some refer to him as a God. I would highly suggest checking out the bike build Eric teamed up with Service Honda on, http://www.eric-gorr.com/. So, it looks like we have a motor!

DEP Pipes has stepped in as a bike sponsor with the donation of a complete exhaust for the YZ, a big thank you goes out to them! Also MXBONZ.COM will be donating a holeshot device, misc. hardware, and carb accessories. Please show some support and check out their website.

So, the demo work has begun. The bike is being torn down and soon the frame will be ready for powdercoating, with the poll winning color. By the week’s end the engine will be sent off to Wisconsin so The Master can put his touch on the project. Make sure to check out our photo gallery under TSM RACING on the forum to see how this ugly, spray-painted toss-away is being transformed into TSM’s bad ass bike build. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for instant build updates.

One of the ideas being discussed is TSM RACING. This possibility seems closer to a reality and the ball has started to roll. TSM is building a bike and we want YOU to help. We are starting with a 2001 YZ125 stripped down practically stock. Throughout the build we will be taking polls and asking our readers for their ideas and suggestions on what parts should be used. We will even gladly take donations of parts. Our goal is to have a bike that is more than just a company sponsored bike, we want a two-stroke family built bike.

We will take you on a step by step journey from start to finish with pictures, videos, and articles. All of our readers who donate will be featured on our sponsors page and receive their name on the front fender graphics. Our companies who donate will receive a spot on the rear fender graphics.

Our current plan is to build the bike for motocross track racing. And the best part yet….YOU will decide who rides for TSM. We are now accepting rider applications and videos. You can find the application on the TSM Forum. Bi-weekly, TSM will post Racer profiles for everyone to view. At the end of the build, we will take a vote on what “family member” will represent our bike. We would prefer a rider in the Mid-Atlantic area, but will consider out of area if we found the right rider.

So here’s all the technical stuff about how this build will work. TSM will be posting Viewer Polls on the TSM Forum. Our viewers then decide which part will be used in our bike. The one exception, if a part is donated, of course we will use the donated part on the bike as appreciation to our sponsors.

We hope to have the bike racing as soon as the build is complete, and we find a suitable rider.

At the end of the season the plan as of right now will be to auction the bike off and use its proceeds for another bike build, with your help again….of course.

His first race will be in Phoenix, on January 15th continuing through 6 races, ending in San Diego on February 19th . This is a very rare and welcomed sight considering the Four-Stroke domination in Professional Motocross.

I have heard quite a few people refer to Cedric as ‘The French Wonder Kid’. Is that an accurate description? We will see. Cedric definitely has loads of skill and style. Coupled with help from David Vuillemin, MotoConcepts, and Reptil Racing he may have what it takes to get the YZ 250 Two-Stroke in the Main Event with the 450’s. Cedric had a very nice year in 2010 on a KTM 250 SX, so the challenge is nothing new to him.

If you are not familiar with AMA rules for Pro Motocross, I’m sure you are thinking ‘Why would someone take on a challenge of such a large displacement disadvantage?” Simple, the AMA only allows up to 250cc Two-Strokes to race against 450cc Four-Strokes. Yeah, we don’t think that’s fair either. There is an AMA Petition to allow up to 300cc Two Strokes in the 450 class, EVERYONE should sign it. Diehard Four- Stroke fan? You should sign it as well, Two Strokes are the roots of Motocross. The sound, smell, and excitement. Everyone loves competition, this is racing afterall. Let’s get MX back to a sport of diehard fans, instead of making people choose a side. Two’s and Four’s can race together, I’ve seen it.

Click Here to sign the Petition.

Two Stroke Motocross caught up with David Vuillemin, who is the Team Manager for MotoConcepts. We asked him some questions that you guys wanted to know.

TSM: What’s the biggest advantage or disadvantage in running a Two Stroke?

DV: The biggest thing is the torque and traction. The 450s have so much torque and it’s easier to hit jump’s out of a corner. On slippery tracks it’s also difficult to put the power to the ground on a 2 stroke. Starts, obviously are a big disadvantage on a 250 Two Stroke.

TSM: How do you guys feel about the Two Stroke displacement disadvantage in AMA Pro Racing?

DV: I don’t feel like there is a big disadvantage, but there is one. There is no more development from the factories. The engine is the same since 10 years ago, and the chassis since 05…

TSM: Have you run into any resistance in this project?

DV: Not really… Mike Genova (Moto Concepts) owner is really pleased with the program. We didn’t really ask anyone else before doing it though. Looks like the fans are excited!

TSM: Has Yamaha shown any interest in the project?

DV: I talked to Jim Perry about the challenge and he thought it was cool. Like I said earlier, it’s basically a MotoConcepts only project.

TSM: What year YZ 250 is Cedric riding?

DV: It is actually a 2010. It is the bike Steve Lamson was using to ride for fun.

TSM: Do you believe the current track designs have created any significant disadvantage for the Two Stroke?

DV: I think the tracks are more open and faster than before. We don’t mind if it doesn’t fit the 2 Stroke. We’ll compensate and try to make the best of it but mainly have fun and share it with the fans.

TSM: Do you guys think this project will lead to increased parity between the Two Stroke and Four Strokes in Pro AMA racing.

DV: I don’t think so. We are not doing this to change the way AMA Racing is, we are doing it for fun, with a really limited budget.

TSM: What gearing will be used? Does he start in 1st or 2nd gear?

DV: It will be 14×51 or 14×52. Starts in 2nd gear, as well as rhythm section, 3rd on the flats, and 4th in the whoops.
