YOU can Make a Difference – Two Stroke Petition

One of our passionate readers has been working diligently to bring the two-stroke question up to the AMA rule makers. He has opened up a conversation with the AMA and is using common sense, respect and determination to make a difference.

I’ll be signing it when I’m done here. I agree with nrkendig, however. Why do we still have to accept less than equal displacement in order to get two strokes back into the professional ranks?

We will never get equal displacement because the manufactures and race teams know that the 2 stroke engine is far superior to the 4 stroke @ equal displacements. They are not going to spend millions of dollars on their race teams and let joe smo smoke them to the first turn every time, when he shows up on a 250 2t. They knew this when they made the rules. This might pass but I’m not holding my breath. I’m not trying to be a negative but Honda and the other manufacturers wont let this happen. Too many $$$$$$ .

They probably won’t let it happen with equal displacements but I think there is a real chance for the 144 and 300. Hopefully, the AMA will think so as well.

144cc and 300cc are definitely big enough to compete in the engine department. What should change is the minimum weight rule. The 450s can drop 20lbs from production whereas the 250 2-strokes are already at their minimum stock. 250s should be able to lower their weight to 205lbs, not the current 212lbs.

The 300 may be able to run with a 450, but 144cc is never going to be enough to hold a 250f, I’ve worked for years on small bore 2st stuff and we need at least 175cc, even our trick sx200 has trouble holding them on hardpack ! Plain and simple, there needs to be an equal 250cc class now as the 4′s are rather good.

A 144SX beat the KX250F. The 250F has had a lot more improvements done over the years. While 175cc+ would be nice and more fair, that rule will never pass with the Big 5 keeping the rules in their favor. But 144cc has a chance and the bikes are fast enough.

Is this petition still alive? I was skimming through you-tube and found this. Signed it anyway cause it needs to happen just getting back into the sport from a 7 year break. My 2 stroker makes me smile way more than any thumper can.
