Motorcycling Australia Changes Displacement Rule
MA released an Information Bulletin on February 23, 2010 with a rule change for the Pro Lites Classes run in Australia.
The previous rule allowed two strokes with the capacity of 100-150cc to compete against four-strokes with the capacity of 200-250cc. The new rule bulletin raises the capacity of the two-stroke machines up to 250cc.
What does this mean?
In Australia you can race a 250cc machine straight up, whether two-stroke or four-stroke. A great big thumbs up to the Motorcycling Australia organization.
Now hopefully this rule will remain in place, unlike the FIM whom last year promised this rule change, but some time during the year quietly removed the announcement Press Release from their web site.

A huge thumbs up to the racers, fans and Motorcycling Australia for this rule change!
About Motorcycling Australia
Motorcycling Australia (MA) is one of Australia’s largest rider organisations, with more than 26,000 members. For more than 80 years, it has been the governing body of motorcycle sport in Australia. Since 2005, MA has accepted non-racing motorcyclists to its membership in the Riders’ Division.
MA is the sole Australian affiliate of the international governing body for motorcycling, Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), based in Geneva, Switzerland.
MA is the only rider organisation with representative offices in every State and Territory (except the ACT). The structure is a Federation of seven State Controlling Bodies (SCB). There is a National Council with one delegate from each SCB and the President.
MA’s National Office is in Melbourne with a full-time staff. Together with the SCBs, their responsibility is to help riders enjoy their motorcycling to the full.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Australia! I’m almost ready to move down there now. It’s great to see a sanctioning body realize that 250cc = 250cc. Now we just need the AMA and the FIM to pull their heads out and do the same.

While i’m happy that they are righting a wrong, it should never have happened in the first place. How in good conscience do you enact a rule that gives an engine a handicap so it can compete, yet make the handicap so big that it forces the competition to go extinct??
Bravo Australia for putting things back to the way they should have been all along. I now fully expect 250 2 strokes to eat 250 4 strokes for lunch and crap the remains out their stingers.

I’ve always been fond of the Aussies and this ruling just made it stronger. Now, if only some of their reasoning and sense of equality will get imported into the U.S, it will make for much better racing at all levels.

Wooaahh back !!
The rule change at this stage only covers our National MX series, with a view to implement it at state and local level in 2011.
But steps on the right direction are being taken.

Iwould love to see that in pro AMA racing,it would be intersting to see the bikes going at it instead of just the personalities
