This is going back a few years but once I was trail riding with a group of guys, one of whom was on a new KX500.I naturally assumed the Kaw was faster then my 500 Maico as my bike had such a mellow easy going powerband. As the day wore on we drag raced across open fields connecting singletrack time and time again and I started to realize that my bike actually had an edge in acceleration and a fairly significant one at that. The funny thing is that my 500 Maico doesn't even seem to burn as much fuel as you would think a 500 2 stroke should.

I'm afriad that we can't comment on power output figures at the moment, but I can tell you without any shadow of a doubt that the current range of Maicos are very smooth and pull right from the bottom end, and as our rider and head mechanic pointed out the first time he rode the 500, "that's weird it pulls just like a four stroke and you don't realize how fast your going till you get to the corner's.

It's difficult to explain until you've ridden one.

Will the power be any more than the last model? I believe the Maico International website said 54hp for the 250 and 56hp for the 320, while the 450Fs make about 49hp. Torque would be good to see too.
Even still I wonder how they compare with the 450F around a track. Often 2-strokes produce more peak power but less midrange/bottom end and post slower times. But having ridden a KTM 300XC and feeling that low end I could imagine a 320 MMX having almost as much low end power as a 450F and stomping it in peak power. It would be an interesting test comparison.

TSM Magazine test?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the enthusiasm just for those who don't know, the current M.M.X. 250 and 320 weigh in at a kilo lighter than this years 250 YZ Yam 250 two stroke.Power cannot be confirmed just yet due to "manufacturing" but we are hoping be able to release some news on this front fairly soon.

A few years ago before I got injured I had a chance to ride a 320 Maico Enduro and was really impressed. The motor had little vibration and was very smooth and powerful, lofting the front end through the gears was effortless. In the future I wouldn't hesitate to get one.

I haven't ridded one, but I bet the 320 is substantially lighter than a 450F and would absolutely crush it in power output.
