Although equal displacement would be wonderful and definitely show how superior 2-strokes are, having a class where both 2 and 4-strokes are competitive would push the development of both types of bikes. Maybe just the smaller class. 125/150 2-stroke vs 200cc 4-stroke. Then have the top class open. Or make a 500cc class again where it is also equal displacement.
But one of the best rules they need to enforce is reliability. The bikes should have to use the same engine for a set number of races.
That is a major problem. A 450 makes more power than a 250 but at the cost of reliability. I am sure that if they made the 4-strokes last longer(as long as a 2-stroke) they would have to bring the power output down to 250 2-stroke level. And at that point with a 500 class a stock 500 by a privateer could be competitive.

Make no mistake about it, four-strokes were FORCED upon the motocross world. Once the rules allowed a displacement advantage to four-strokes, it went downhill. Granted this view has the benefit of hindsight to put it in perspective.

As far as I'm concerned equal displacement is the only way that you can compete in motorsports. The reasons for this are simple, if you have to create an artificial handicap on order for a machine to compete, then you are not racing a competitive machine.

Why should the two-stroke be regulated by rules that were not well thought out to begin with, when it is the better machine?

In Kart racing there are two separate classes for two-strokes and four-strokes. How about if we add a real, permanent two-stroke class to the National events?

It probably wouldn't happen, because it would quickly become the most popular class with the racers that pay their own way and the fans.

The great part about Cedric and some other racers is that even with the handicap afforded to the four-strokes, they are picking up the gauntlet and racing an "inferior" machine, one with almost half the displacement of their competition.

Cedric is very brave and should be admired for his choices. My guess is that there are many folks discouraging him.

I fully support any race effort that chooses to compete using a two-stroke.

Go Cedric Go!!

I like the idea of equal displacement bikes for one reason. To show which engine type is better. BUT at the same time that is doing exactly what we hate AMA for doing right now, making it completely biased for one engine type. This time against 4-strokes.

The best would be to have 125-150cc 2-strokes against 200cc 4-strokes, 300-350cc 2-strokes against 450cc 4-strokes, and an open class where any displacement, single cylinder, 2 or 4-strokes can compete.

Most likely the 2-strokes will make a big comeback and it will be a more even field of both engine types. It won't be so biased toward one industry that it will force competition between the two engine types and thus development for both. That is the healthiest racing.

Boy, would that be a great asset to allow the 300cc two-stroke (or 350) to compete against the 450F's!! Now we're talking!!

Obviously I'd prefer equal displacement, but with a 300cc two-stroke vs. a 450F four-stroke it would not be as biased against the two-strokes.

Cedric is awesome and he certainly has a new fan in me! For the first time ever I'll be following the MX GP's!!

What would be interesting is if the AMA allowed 300cc or 350cc 2-Strokes to compete against 450Fs. (if not equal displacement) They really need an open class again.

Cedric just single-handedly renewed my interest in the World MX scene! Congratulation to him and good luck on the upcoming season! It is so great to see someone of his caliber out there on a two stroke!

Now we just need to get the AMA to allow it! That would open alot of people's eyes!
