Manifesto of an unrepentant two-stroke afficionado by Jody Weisel
“Join the movement before it’s too late.”
With so much attention focused on the four-stroke and many folks claiming the end of two-strokes is near, reading something as strong and supportive in a mainstream magazine is a breath of fresh air.
In the November 2009 issue of Motocross Action magazine read a two page treatise about the two stroke.
In the article Jody debunks many of the myths that have been perpetuated on the motocross public. All the usual suspects are examined, the EPA, displacement, the manufacturers and cost. All are answered in his simple and to the point style.
Some quotes from the article include;
“A four-stroke feels like you are piloting a Cadillac Coupe DeVille down the track. It’s heavy and it feels heavier. It is the motocross version of a front-wheel-drive car. You steer it. There is no romance in steering an ocean liner into a harbor nor a 450cc thumper around a racetrack.”
“… racing a two-stroke is a blast. It is like a completely different sport. The bike wheelies, slides, spins and goes braaapp. There is no comparison between racing a two-stroke and racing a four-stroke. One is pure fun, and the other is very NASCAR-ish.”
The question is, regardless if you are racing for first place or twelfth place, which bike will provide you with more fun?

wow.
No wonder the big 4 and the Kool Aid pusher fan boyz don’t like Weisel. The truth does not mix with the 4 $troke fleecing of the masses. Obviously Jody is not on the take and the big 4 probably don’t like it. If Jody is ever in Indiana, I have a large prime steak on the grill and a beers waiting! You too John. lol

Wow… someone in the mainstream media finally gets it. 2 strokes are just more fun to ride. Great article Jody.

Fire Roger D, Keith McCarthy, and ban 4 strokes from racing immediately

finally somebody goes out and says it. This is a pretty big break to have such an article in a mainstream magizine. way to go Jody, sure did make my day, and possibly shut up some of those smug little 4 $troke fluzzies at school.

WOOHOO! Right on, Jody! We need to get the truth out there, I am amazed everytime I talk to a new bike sales person and they tell me how fast the new 450 is. I race open-class two strokes…don’t tell me about fast! The other good one is that the new four junks(I mean strokes)are cleaner and that the EPA banned two strokes. I guess it is easier to manipulate media into getting people to believe what you want than it is to spread propaganda in the form of leaflets dropped from planes. We should do like the people did in Boston so many years ago, but instead of tea it should be the new four strokes! They make a much bigger splash when they hit the water! LOL! VIVA LE REVOLUTION!!!

I know there are quite a few people that don’t like Jody, (I am not one of those poeple) but that is probably the greatest article ever! haha And I hate sales people. P.S. Mr. Salesman I know more about your bikes than you do. Thanks for coming out, heres a quarter, go F yourself. I don’t want to buy a 4 stroke so don’t try to sell me one, do I need to draw you a picture?

Like Jody! Wonder if this article will hurt their ads sale with the 4 joke manufacturers??? Why people start waking up just right now? This article should be written 3 years ago!So many hypocrites people in the industry. Fun to see some integrity. My 2 stroke is like my wife! until the end! I hope the 2010 four stroke die on the dealers floor. 2 stroke rebellion! I just want to start racing again..go buy a 250 two stroke from Service Honda..Get my engine UPS to FMF and kick evewrybody asses on the damn starting gate.

Jody can write a mean article. I am sure he is getting flack from Honda for this. This article says clearly and accurately how the motocross market situation really is due in part to the high cost of four-strokes all around and how the big OEM’s have fooled the average rider is over the four-stroke mantra. With prices this high this year, it is the first time I heard my four-stroke owners grumbling they just can’t afford a new bike every year any more and are looking for deals on older bikes in inventory. KX has a $2500 discount program for older bikes and our local dealers were not disclosing that to La. customers. There are a lot of two yr. old model going cheap yet not many two-strokes in inventory. The industry has hit the wall.

I just saw the list price for the newest technology Honda CRF250F – $7200 – Are you kidding me??? My $1500 11 year old YZ250 will still beat it to the first corner by at least 3 bike lengths every time, and that is with being set up for the woods with a flywheel weight, torque pipe and spark arrestor!!! No thanks Honda, I will never buy your junk!!!

After reading this article I finally have prof that 4 strokes do suck. And 2 strokes will always rule the track. Most people argue with me that 4 stroke are better than 2 strokes. But now because of Jody Weisel I will just shove this article in there face ans tell them to eat it. I own a KTM 125sx and love it, 2 Strokes all the way!

wow, just read this. He nailed it in a big way, that’s for sure! Funny, I wondered for years – how can the manufactuers afford to price the 4 strokes within a hundred or so dollars of the 2T’s?? Well their strategy was brilliant. Price it low enough to rope everybody in, then once they’re hooked, price it up. i’d be interested to find out how many YZ250’s get sold this year
By bleake637 on December 11th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
I bet YZ250s will be going like hot cakes, even though Yamaha is charging $400 more for updated graphics. I really had some hope that they might put it in the new frame, maybe next year. Last year I had to drive 5 hours one way to find a YZ250 because all the local dealers were sold out. I’m seeing a whole lot more 2 smokers on the line at the MX track too. People simply can’t afford four strokes any more. The big 4 need to wake up and smell the pre-mix.
