Carmichael, Stanton & Emig head up a field including Michigan Mafia greats in this all-two-stroke gate exhibition race @ RedBud July 4th
Check out this video of Jeff Stanton blasting around the Red Bud track on his Honda CR250 two stroke.
BUCHANAN, Mich., (June 30 2009) – Fans yearning for the unmistakable crackle of two-stroke dirt bikes ripping around RedBud’s pro track will get their wish this Saturday with the inaugural running of the RedBud FMF Two-Stroke Invitational, featuring the likes of Ricky Carmichael, Jeff Stanton, Jeff Emig and a whole host of recognizable Michigan Mafia names from several eras of pro MX racing!
The three-lap exhibition race, scheduled for intermission at this Saturday’s (July 4th) Monster Energy MX National @ RedBud, will be run on older and more current two-stroke bikes – the kind of which not only put RedBud on the map, but allowed the sport of motocross to prosper with their quick-hitting power and indistinguishable “Brrraaappp” noise emanating from the exhaust.
“This is going to be an absolute blast,” said Stanton, the multi-time MX/SX champ from nearby Sherwood, Mich.. “It’s been a while since the fans at RedBud have heard a bunch of two-strokes racing around the track. I think everyone’s really going to get a kick out of this – I know I will.”
Added Carmichael: “I’m with Stanton, man. This is gonna be a riot.”
Joining RC and Michigan’s greatest motocross racer of all time will be a number of recognizable names from the Michigan motocross ranks, i.e., the Michigan Mafia members, guys from a number of pro racing eras that still get after it, including: Todd DeHoop, Josh Woods, Kelly Smith, Matt Maximoff, Josh Lichtle, Matt Crown, Larry Witmer, Jay Wagner and Ryan Valade.
Things keep on getting better and better… check out this video of Jeff Emig talking about his plans for the Two Stroke race. Should be very interesting!

“The bad news is, everyone says the 450 class is so…boring.” Thanks motocross.com, I couldn’t have said it any better. I just finished watching the Red Bud race on TV. I won’t watch another race on TV! They only showed the second moto and a few highlights of the first moto. Not even a 10 second clip of the FMF invitational. I am trying to find results and the only mention I have found is on supercross.com. Two lines describing Ricky Carmichael’s accomplishments and stating that he won. Two stinkin’ lines? What the f#*k!

Well no big surprise this race was not broadcast on NBC, nor was it mentioned during the broadcast.
From what I have heard, Alli-Sport did broadcast the race, but I don’t know if it was video or just audio. I will find out what happened and post it here late Sunday Night or early Monday morning.
Great ride RC!!

well, i made the 3 1/2 hour drive out to redbud. and i’d have to say, that the fans were more excited to see, and hear the two strokes on the track. not to mention riders like the G.O.A.T. and Stanton. to list a few. also, Jeff Emig had claimed that his clutch went out at morning practice. something is fishy about that. can’t possibly tell me that he of all riders couldn’t get a clutch, or new bike for that matter so he could back up his talk aswell. any ways Ricky won by a mile, and he took two extra victory laps to show respect to the fans. and on the podium he went on to say that he wished he could be out racing the next heat. also. lorocco’s leap, ricky over jumped the landing enough times during practice, that he blew out his rear rim. well for only 3 laps, it was short lived, but well worth the long drive. long live the two stroke!!!!
