To factoryX
They have NOT scrapped the 2 stroke quads. Yamaha have just re-released a Banshee in Australia. I was shocked when I walked into the doors! Yep a 2010 Banshee. While I'm at it Yamaha have also re-released a 2 stroke outboard motor range. 2 stroke DFi (WHY NO YZ250DFi??????)
Evinrude scrapped the entire 4 stroke range to return to DFi 2 strokes! Lighter on fuel, lower emissions and more hp and torque with 2 stroke reliability to boot. I could go on about a dozen manufacturers returning to DFi 2 strokes (Aprilia 125 scooters being around for a while now, OSSA emerging out of the woodwork and back on the scene +++)
I am just a bit disappointed that KTM have not taken the baton from the lynched Honda engineer to be the first Enduro / MX manufacturer to go big with the new 2T’s. As mentioned before Aprilia have been running them for a while now on Kids 125cc scooters

Just mentioning the fact that the results as posted by the dyno here are not in line with a bike that has already been featured on this site. A 1998 CR400 DFi
(Honda EXP-2 The Return of Two Strokes?)
The Honda EXP-2 did 54hp with 58ft lbs of torque in 1995 - 1998. (Test product from Honda until they lynched the engineer) That’s a fair whack more than what is shown in the predictive dyno in this article. The torque figures for the CR400 is off the charts in comparison to ANYTHING available in 2010 It actually had the same HP and torque figures as a 780 twin Dakar bike prepped by Honda for the day (1998 Dakar)

A 2009 250XC produces 38ft lbs of torque.
Just for kicks the Rotax 600 twin produces 130hp as fitted to the SkiDoo.
That’s a potential 65hp from a 300 or slightly less than 65hp (1 cyl)
Maico are boasting 53hp from their 250mx
or the 250exc @ 53hp
http://www.ktm.com/Bike-Detail.102652.0.html?bike=104&cHash=1b7f256306
or the 300exc @ 56hp
http://www.ktm.com/Bike-Detail.102652.0.html?bike=112&cHash=0a3e858f3b

KTM did mention they were bringing out a DFi soon – That was in 2003 and then again in 2007 – Cheez I’ll be a real old man before I can buy one, if waiting X years with no mention of the topic is soon!!!???

Wonder if these figures and bikes would sign the death of the noisy unreliable 4 stroke? Or maybe that’s why they scrapped the idea of DFi 2 strokes – parts sales might disappear? Who as a manufacturer would shoot the golden goose!!!!!

I am being very nice and in line with the attitude article LOL

[...] 4-stroke twin. I have been riding 2-strokes since i was about 15 years old and i still and always will love my banshee over any other quad. Do any of you guys think Yamaha is gonna throw in a 4-stroke twin to replace the banshee someday or what? I really don't think they would let the twin cylinder deal just die with the banshee. I already think is bullshit they didn't even try to make 2-strokes run cleaner to meat emissions in the USA. Anways, i just read the two strokes strike back article and it was quite interesting. It would be awesome to see a new 2-stroke quad to come out. I know im not the only die hard 2-stroke fan. But it really sucks knowing there isn't gonna be any more two-stroke quads coming out. Anyways i just want to know what you guys think. you can read the article here Two strokes strike back :: twostrokemotocross.com [...]

This is great info! I wish I knew about this site earlier. My question is, why did they also stop making 2 stroke quads? The trx250r set up for mx is legendary(318 lbs) and honda stopped back in 89 while yamaha made bank on the blaster and banshee till 2006. If KTM came out with a 300pv 2 stroke quad, it would even push there sales up farther, I would even save up for it.

Oh for God's sake."I will put my 82 IT465 against any of the new 4 strokes"
Will you ? In what, the which one is an antique sow barge and which one is an oustanding dirt bike contest?
Because you will take home the "antique sow barge" award hands down.
I love two strokes. I hope for their resurgence, have a late model one along with a thumper.
Your comments are absurd and trash like that does nothing to influence manufacturers. Why would they? There were a ton of outstanding two strokes released after that 82 and you didnt buy any of them.
Compared to say an 07-08 CRF450 that pig has terrible suspension, less peak (40 vs. 53)horsepower,less torque, and more of both over over a broader powerband.
Like I said, I love two strokes, but your comments could come only from the delusional and/or inebriated.By the way, your 82 IT was poorly reviewed and regarded even when it was new. Get a grip.Doug
