Ok, first of all, there is a fundamental thing wron with this story... and that is the fact that the CRF has been pitted against foes that it was never meant to compete against and that it is severely handicapped against. 2 stroke supporters always spout the same rhetoric about engine displacement, but is this really an issue? The fact that 2 strokes produce twice as many power strokes compared to a four stroke simply means that it will produce more power when compared to a four stroke of the same cc. Does this automatically mean that it is a better bike? Or course not! If you're talking in purely hypothetical terms, on paper a two stroke should theoretically be able to produce twice the horsepower of a four stroke. The fact that in reality, a 2 stroke only produces around 75% more power, actually reflects negatively on the 2 stroke, not the four stroke, because the four stroke is obviously making better use of each of its power cycles.

Secondly, the fact that a pro racer is only able to go a 10th of a second faster on a machine that has an 8 horsepower advantage over its rival, is PROOF that the four stroke is simply a better machine to go racing on. Either of these 250 2t's would be destroyed by a 450, or even an sx 350, even though they would be reasonably evenly matched, power wise, against these bikes.

Thirdly, cc is a very old fashioned and stupid way to class bikes anyway. In AMA and amateur racing, classes should be decided by peak power output, not cc. If classes were determined by the peak horsepower a bike put out, then 2 strokes and 4 strokes would finally be able to compete on an equal footing which would show CLEARLY which was the superior machine FOR RACING. And i hate to say it, but the tractability and smooth power of the four stroke would still, in the majority of cases, be able to pull it across the line in front of the 2 stroke.

In summary, I'm not trying to say that the 2 stroke should die out; everyone knows that they are a hoot to ride, and personal preference should always be a deciding factor in what people buy, not simply what is available. BUT, in the competitive circuit, when an four stroke meats an equally powerful 2 stroke, its should, and most likely would, beat it.

I TOTALLY agree with irace2tmotos comments. 4 stroke$ may be good in cars and dual sports, but I ride for the SNAP.....you can keep your "easier" to ride camshaft bike while I have WAY more fun on a smoker. How many of us get paid to ride MX? MX doesnt pay my bills so until then the sport remains as a (say it with me now) FUN HOBBY.....not a JOB. So o waist your money on your technology to have a bike that's "easier" to ride. Save it for your car, .....I'll keep the SNAP and FUN with my dirt bikes.

It's also helpful to spread the word about the two stroke, not everyone that races goes on the Internet. Tell them about the shootouts, tests and stories.

It starts with each of us telling the truth about the two stroke.

Sure I sound like a broken record, but without the displacement advantage we would not have "competitive" four-strokes.

Braaap!

Track times are one thing, but it's simple.

Every time I stop by my local dealer I make it know that I will never buy the product the sits on the floor till it has a 2 stroke engine in it! I'm the consumer and I control my money and they aren't getting any for the 4 strokes so I will buy alternate new, used, or vintage 2 strokes till I croak! I'm only one person but it is fun to walk by the 4 strokes on the showroom wave to the salesman and smile cause they are just sitting there not being sold.

Support those who still build 2 strokes, not the 4 stroke builders who don't see the light..... YET!

I Race 2t Motos..........forever!
