By JohnNicholas • on May 16, 2009

FMF is pleased to announce it will host the 2009 FMF 2-Stroke Invitational at 4 select events during the AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Nationals. This 2-Stroke-Only race will be held at half time between the AMA Lucas Oil Motocross 250/450 races. It will be a one moto race format with pre entry only. All 2-stroke technology machines are illegible from air cooled to water cooled. All displacements are eligible including the popular 125’s , 250’s, the big bore 500’s. If you think you and your machine can handle the pro course, then come on out! Creative one off designs are also encouraged.

The FMF 2-Stroke Invitational is an invitation event only. Riders need to apply and be invited to participate. How cool would this be to race at one of the outdoor nationals right in your back yard in front of 25,000+ fans on the national pro track? But remember, space is limited, so apply now for an event in your area

The Legends & Heroes Tour folks will handle all pre event online registration and all post registration at the each venue. Just look for the Legends and Heroes display to get your pre-registration race credentials.

Gotta hand it to the AMA for promoting vintage racing and for creating this idea. Of course to our friends at FMF Also be sure to hit the huge race/swap/vintage event at mid Ohio

Everybody’s Uncle……..

I’m not so sure that the AMA deserves the credit here. The folks over at MX Sports and Davey Coombs have been attempting to include two strokes in the actual National events since early this year.

At the beginning of this race season they tried diligently to get the manufacturers to agree to allowing the 250 class to be just that, whether a two or four stroke. When this did not meet with success, DC mentioned that they would attempt to hold Two Stroke special events during a few of the Nationals. It seems that they followed through on that promise.

Thank you DC and MX Sports!

As for the folks over at FMF and in particular Donnie Elmer.. they are first rate and deserve a huge debt of gratitude for sponsoring this event.

Last point, I’m not so sure that you could consider this a vintage event. Last year the two stroke challenge at Glen Helen was won by Greg Albertyn on a 2004 RM250 equipped with a “works” engine. The class also included a few Service Honda 500AF’s and Yamaha YZ250’s.

It will be really interesting to see what bikes will compete this year!
