Maico Joins two stroke Bonanza at Apex.
The high profile Apex circuit near Birmingham England played host to a specialist two stroke day on Good Friday (10th April) attracting hard core pre-mix fans from around the U.K.
Circulating the dirt in such exhalted company “Maico Internationals” Dunlop Maxima riders rider’s Keith Ree, Neil Watton and Neil Berry, were highly visible on the 320 and 500 machines, rekindling some fond memories of the past for many Maico fans present on the day.
With numerous 500’s on display both on and off the track Maico were clearly outnumbered by the Honda contingent led by former multi 500cc world Champion Dave Thorpe. However as the day wore on and the rain set in it was the fighting spirit in the Maico camp that kept the action going, with track owner Lee Jones taking the 320 out for several quick laps reveling in the unique and almost legendary power delivery from the engine, before bringing the curtain came down on what was an excellent day for all involved.
As much as the day was a showcase for the bikes the team were also busy testing new ignition systems provided by team sponsor West Country Windings.
Thanks go to Dave Livesey for organizing the day and Lee Jones and his team at the Apex circuit who ensured everything ran smoothly throughout the day.
