Much as Maico don’t produce a 125!, this is still great news with the F.I.M. clearly accepting the global resurgence in popularity of the two strokes.I am sure from the television perspective it will add another dimension to G.P. racing and will hopefully introduce more riders to two strokes at club level around the world.

This is great! It appears the F.I.M. can see quite easily through the smoke and mirrors of the manufacturers. They don’t seem the least bit upset three of the four Japanese heavy weights don’t build a 125 smoker. You can sure bet the manufacturers that DO build 125s are smiling all the way to the bank now.
You know…I think I’ll buy a fuel injected KTM 125SX pretty soon.

Great news, Now it is up to the national federations to follow and make a 125cc class for youth and amature racing too.
Motocross is a sport for all the people and we need to control the cost en noise for future racing. I understand the factory`s wants to develope 4stroke but what is the use if we watch teams and riders on TV in a sport where nobody can partcipate in like Motogp and formule1. On local tracks you can see 10 year old 2stroke bikes but where do the older 4stroke go, once you have an engine failer on a second hand 4stroke the cost of repair is higher then the valeu of the bike, so i guess many people leave it broken.
We all have missed the great sound of a 100% 2stroke race.
Bring these classes back in all different levels of racing.

Here’s a bit more news from the FIM.
2009 Motocross World Championship starts-new 125cc 2 stroke European Championship announced
FAENZA (ITALY), 29 March 2009 – The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship starts today at Faenza, Italy, and once again Youthstream and FIM welcome another World Championship season.
During the conference it was also announced that a new European series dedicated to 2 stroke 125cc bikes will be organized together with the World MX1 and MX2 Championships in a total of six/seven events starting in 2010.
Giuseppe Luongo, the Youthstream President, stated: “The 2009 FIM Motocross World Championship continues to grow, we will continue to invest on the television production, on the infrastructures, on the promotion, on the comfort for the riders, the teams and the spectators. We have realized everything which was promised. The TV production will have the live on board camera and the jimmy jib, the new pit lane is set up, the Pit Lounge is fully operational and the many other improvements can be already seen in the venue. The Championship will be broadcast online live and free of charge with Freecaster.tv. In 2010 we will start the new 125cc 2 stroke UEM European Championship in six/seven events together with the MX1 and MX2 series. This will help the young riders and their families to reduce the costs.”

yeah its good news but weren’t they supposed to be letting the 250cc 2strokes compete against 250cc 4strokes in MX2? I’ve been researching any recent news on this and its all gone dead. If they dont do that then I can’t ever see Kawasaki / Honda or Suzuki bringing their 2 strokes back into production again. Its just a big conspiracy stopping us getting what we want – looking at the discussion boards on the net – so many people want the 2 strokes back but the powers that be wont let it happen.. its appalling
Maybe they think they can sweep the issue under the carpet by giving just these 6 or 7 races for the 2 stroke 125cc’s. I also saw at the same time they are introducing a new 4 stroke only 150cc class ( http://www.automobilsport.com/fim-motocross-european-series-new-150cc-2010-chances-youngsters-manufacturers—60782.html )
Gotta somehow keep up the fight to get the 250cc 2-strokes on a fair playing field with the 250cc 4 strokes.

Hey westyz
Yes the FIM rules are set for 2010 to allow 250 two strokes to compete with 250 four strokes. So look for this change next season. It should be extremely interesting at the pro GP level!!
As for the addition of the 125cc class, this will help keep the manufacturers to continue to build them. That can only be good for our cause in the long run.
The 150cc four stroke only class is actually a step in the right direction. In no way should the four strokes be given a displacement advantage. This has to be the worst ruling ever made in the history of motor sports.
It would be impossible to regulate machines by power output (this has been suggested by many)The only fair way of racing is to keep the displacement the same across the board.
Besides so many four stroke fans have said that the 4’s are a huge advance over the two strokes. This still confuses me because they have a double displacement advantage. It’s like having a race between a Honda Accord and a Corvette… not a fair.
