Australian Teenage Two Stroke Racer

G’day guys,

My name is Mitchell Durbin; I’m 15 years old and live in Belgrave south, Melbourne, Australia.

I’ve being riding motorbikes since I was 6 or 7 years old and my first bike was a 2000 model Suzuki RM80, I never used to race as there were no tracks and I used to move around a lot so riding was just done in the bush. My dad later got given a ’93 CR250 from his mate (blown up though, there’s always a catch ha-ha), and his mate then went and bought a ’95 CR250, so this gave dad the bug again and all the sudden where out in the bush every second weekend, the only thing is that I’m on a 80 trying to keep up with some pretty hot CR250’s and I believe this is how I improved so much in so little time, later on we decided that a 6 foot , 13 year old was getting a lil big for a small wheel 80, so we started to look around and were deciding between 125 or 250 (both 2 stroke), I finally decided to get a 125 as I couldn’t race 250’s until I was 16, so we came across a ’01 Honda CR125 that looked tough as, a nice tidy engine wrapped in that alloy frame topped off with a set of black plastics, we picked her up for $2,800 which was great considering the bloke had her advertised for $4.500.

So we picked her up and I continued bush riding for about a year until I could find more people to help get me to and from tracks etc, then one ride the clutch kept slipping I could hear a bad rattling noise which turned out to be the power valves hitting the piston and also on the way back to the car the head stem bearings locked up (not a good day for me), this all happened around march ’07, I decided to just go the hack and rebuild her ground up, and as you could imagine for a 15 year old it’s not easy to come across cash, so it took me about 8 months to save up the cash and get the parts with A LOT of help from my grandpa, thank you Dzadza.

She is now running and is an absolute piece of art, here is what was done to her and all work was carried out myself:

Wiseco pro’lite piston
Hot-Rod/wiseco Crank
Electrosil hardened nickasil coated cylinder
Port & polish with shaved power valves
Slightly reshaped crank case for quicker throttle response
V force 3 reed
Doma and FMF chamber
Pro circuit R304 Shorty muffler
Complete bearing refit of whole bike and a few more bits and pieces here and there

I have since competed in the junior Nojee Blue light ride in ’08 as I did in ’07, this is an enduro which is near completely dominated by four strokes, in ’07 I was quickest in my group and in ’08 it was my first ride of the year and came third to two mates on KTM 250f’s, I was quite happy with this result considering it was my first ride of the year and there are near 200 entries. I also recently bought the new issue of Australasian Dirt Bike Magazine and there is a pic of me in there too so I’m pretty stoked about that!

I was also at the Frankston motox track last weekend and attracted some interest from a few pro riders, they later came and had a look at my bike and said the suspension is completely up the duff and recommended me to another rider who does suspension, my suspension is now getting done and I am going to Honda Smart motocross school, I am expecting big results for myself in my first race season ’09 and will keep you guys informed.

I can’t put it into words how much I love the sport and 2 strokes, my DREAM in life is to make it to World No. 1 MX/SX rider in the world aboard a 2 stroke.

Keep a look out for me in the future guys! DIRT = LIFE!

Just quickly want to say thank you to Mum, Dad, all my Grandparents and my mates Gracie, Lani, Jack, Steph, Macca, Benny, Lisa and everyone ( sorry if I don’t mention you) for encouraging me all the way!

Thank you guys for your time and thank you General for posting this.

LONG LIVE THE 2 STROKE!!!!!! BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!!!
