500cc Two Stroke Annual Meeting – Nunspeet Netherlands

By JohnNicholas • on January 13, 2009

This meeting is the brainchild of Remy Aust. A Dutch racer with a preference for 500cc two strokes. In his collection of bikes are two Honda CR500 motocrossers.

As an introduction to Remy, it’s a good idea to watch these two short videos from a beach race in Holland. The first one is from 2005 and the second one is from 2007. Remy is riding bike number 43 against a field consisting of mostly 450 four strokes.

The following is what Remy shared about the annual 500cc meeting.

This day it’s all about the big fat 2-strokes. Older bikes, new bikes, monoshocks, twinshocks.. everybody with a 400cc (or more) dirtbike is welcome!

High flying KX500.

So no KTM 380’s, 360 CZ’s etc. Big pistons, large strokes and big transfer ports are obliged.

It’s not a race, just a pleasant meeting of enthusiastics! The first edition of 2006 was a big succes. Therefore we decided to make it an annual returning event.

The intention is making 2 groups (A and B, depends on the amount of riders. 3 Groups is also an option). The faster riders (A) and of course the little less faster guys (B). We also ride together (A + B) of course, but some want to ride their own pace without thinking about getting lapped or something. And the faster guys don’t want to zigzag through the pack.

Start

The gates of our track will open at 8.00am. That will give you some time to change and talk a bit with other riders.
At 10.00am the home-ground’s open for training (all together), followed by subjoined scheme:

10.00am – 11.00am > group A+B
11.00am – 11.30am > break
11.30am – 12.00am > group A+B (combined start + free riding)
12.00am – 12.30am > B group
12.30am – 01.00pm > A group
01.00pm – 01.30pm > break
01.30pm – 02.00pm > B group
02.00pm – 02.30pm > A group
02.30pm – 03.00pm > B group
03.00pm – 03.30pm > A group
03.45pm – 04.00pm > group A+B (combined start + free riding)”

So it’s not really a competing event (not really).

500cc riders going through the first turn.

500cc riders going through the first turn.

The first year I organized it we had 1 supermanche for all people who would like to race each other for a trophy. Last year we didn’t because we are obliged to put marshalls on every jump and almost every corner. Impossible for me to get done because it’s during the summer..

The idea of organizing an 500 2-stroke event was brought up on a forum.. everybody loved to ride with each other but no one knew where and how etc. I’m a panel member at a local motocross track so it wasn’t hard for me to set it all up. And so the first ‘treffen’ was born in 2005 :-)

It ain’t no big event.. every year like about 30-40 participants.. Nothing fancy, but very cosy though. Last year we also had some former GP 500 riders participating and as spectators. Very fun :-)

Some people bring their (homemade) stuff to sell it to oneanother. CNC alu stuff or original Honda, Maico, Kawasaki, Yamaha etc. parts.

Thanks for posting ! :-)

Cheers,
Rémy

Video #2 at the 35 to 40 second mark is music to my ears. Steel or Aluminum framed, they are a blast to ride.

2-Stroke Championships in England growing in popularity…500cc Annual Meetings in the Netherlands…and one single two stroke only “invitational” in America that doesn’t even get covered via television or magazine. I have to believe we can do something about this. Can’t we?

Its all about the money. 90% of guys I know prefer to ride and watch 2-strokes. I’m shocked and disgusted with U.S. motocross.

Mick – Yes I agree we will do something in order to have two stroke racing in the USA. This site can help bring folks together.

KX500Pilot – It would be great to hear from everyone about their preferences. How can we gather opinions of the folks that are not on the internet??

I agree with all of you guys but only actions will make the difference. I just bought the last MXA magazine and had a blast reading it!! They are so like us! They done a test on the YZ 125 and love every pages of it! AMA should be banned as a racing organization. Where is the honesty in that sport? Just mostly everybody in the industry is just hypocrite about it. Look at Villopoto having an hard time with the 450. This thing is a mess to ride. They just killed the soul of the sport for money. Watched Supercross on Speed last week.. on mute. We need to get something going on..I am going to a motorcycle show this week-end and going to bring a bag with me if I feel like puking.

Motocross Action Mag knows the truth and states it…They love 2-strokes too!..

The big problem is the Japanese manufacturers DON’T want to build 2-strokes anymore!…SO the pros don’t race them!

They are now “green companies” and think the image is better for them…Until people/racers start to realize that 4-stroke time bombs at $8,000+ dollars (and probably 9 or $10,000 in 2 years)are not the answer, 2-strokes will be pushed to the sidelines or cancelled altogether.

We need the rules changed to displacement only in US Pro Motocross and Supercross…Then hopefully KTM or another company will continue developement with 2-strokes and kick butt!

I have been telling everyone about this site. Hopefully, they will step up and post.
