Despite the advances of direct-injection, this appears to have been the design that worked the best with this least amount of technology thrown at it. Simple, clean, powerful, effective. The most telling story was how it compared to Honda's own 4 stroke Dakar bike - the V-twin NXR780. Though down some on horsepower, it produced identical torque and was over 115lbs lighter giving it a better power-to-weight ratio and making it easier to ride. And it got better gas mileage!!
Sadly though it seems that Honda owns the patent for this technology and has buried it.
