Who said there’s no two strokes being made?

By JohnNicholas • on September 5, 2008

Not to start any conspiracy theories or anything, but I have heard told in most of the US Motocross media that some of the Japanese manufacturers are no longer making any two strokes. Sure Yamaha and KTM are still in the game here is the good ‘ol USA, but the word is that Honda and Kawasaki dropped them completely.

Or is it????

Well since some of the wonderful folks that visit this site are from other areas of the world we have been looking outside the US for interesting news and information regarding two strokes. While on a hunt late last night came across a site for a magazine called MotoX (The Complete Dirt Bike Mag) from the UK and what was listed under Reviews of Bikes?

You guessed it ….. tests on the two strokes. In fact there were shootouts of the past few years listed.

My favorite article is called Joy Machines, this is a shootout of all five 2007 125cc motocross bikes. Yup even though we did not get 125cc motocross bikes from Honda, Kawasaki or Suzuki they were available in Europe.

Is there anyone else out there that wants to see two stroke racing here in the USA? If so where are you? Drop a note and let us know what is happening in your local area. If you want to see expanded coverage of two strokes let us know what’s going on.

In the meantime check out the awesome two stroke shootouts at MotoX

Suzuki just introduced (in the UK) a 2 stroke 125/250 RM in XC trim. The bike is designed for off road hare scrambles and cross country races. The manufacturers know there is a market or a off road two stroke motorcycle. Some day maybe the powers to be in the US will see this too…. Bring back the 125 class, let 250’s run as 250’s, and bring back the open class. Run what you brung… Back in the day, I remember Marty Smith doing pretty well in the open class on a 125…. (at least until he wrung it out one to many times trying to compete against the 500’s… oops)

Just be aware that this is not an official release from the Suzuki factory. This comes from a dealer in the UK that converts 2008 Suzuki two-strokes into awesome race trim.

It’s great that this dealer has taken the initiative to push ahead with two-strokes. I just want to make sure folks know this is not direct from Suzuki.
